Psychic Pub Magic Trick

Ok, I need someone to come up with an explanation for this as its driving me CRAZY.

I was in the pub with my friends the other night and we got talkin to these two lads who wanted to show us a magic trick. The trick involved one of us telling one guy the name of a celebrity and the other guy would guess it.

So I went first and whispered Jay Z to one fella. He went over to his friend, said 'right, this is an easy one, you're gonna get this' clicked his fingers a few times and said 'it's a lovely person, lovely person, you can get this' and within 10 seconds the other fella guessed JayZ.

My friends tried Adele and Hillary Clinton as well and the guy got it (Hillary took about 30 seconds)

Can anyone give me an answer to how they did this? I was thinkin clcking fingers might be a code, but now im thinkin it was misdirection...

Clicking could easily be morse code for their initials or first couple of letters. Or a wireless mic. Were you pished? Cos I'm pretty sure I could make a group of drunk people think I had magic powers just by whispering the name.

I was completely sober, music wasnt too loud. There was a chance he could be whispering when he was clicking his fingers but i didnt catch it.

I thought it must be code but it'd have to be fairly complicated to spell someones name in a few seconds without any obvious signs.

Exactly.
I went through a phase of learning tricks online in 2008 :P
The clicking the fingers is bollix. Its misdirection. But think about this for a second, The whole trick is you told one of them the name ... then the other had to "guess" it. This leads to a whole world of opportunies to let his mate know his name.

Off the top of my head, I could think of several ways to let the other guy know. Unbeknowingly to you.

• Angles - At one point, while you are waiting for the other guy to guess the name I could be standing to the left, right or behind you and mime the words to my mate "jay z" ... not a good way of posting the name, but in a pub? can easily be done.
• More than likely, as easy at it sounds, he write the name on his palm. How often would you pay attention to a persons hands as you talk to them ... especially if someone has their hands behind their back as you whisper in their ear... then all he has to do is do a little presentation ... "its a lovely lovely person" with hand gestures... "click click click"... while in the mean time exposing his palm to the angle of his mate ... boom "is it jay z?"

If I understand you correctly, my first thoughts were along these lines too.

1 time your going get this.

ABCDE.

Then three clicks is

C .

2 times your going to get this.

FGHIJ.

Then 4 clicks is I

So Ci and so on ...

There are other sentences used that bring up other cases of letters..

Hey Guys,

Me and a few friends have recently been doing this magic trick with great results.

Girls just don't seem to be able to work out how its done and even the guys have a hard time figuring it out.

It takes a little practice to get it down but the results are worth it.

You will need the help of a friend or wing man to preform this trick.



Trick Description

You instruct your target to whisper any word into your ear, with a few magic words and finger clicks your wing man receives the word telepathically and says the word aloud. The targets shocked.



How Its Done

Start off by asking your target if she believes in ESP (very mystery but it adds to the effect)

Then say you and your wing man have a close connection and can send words telepathically to each other.

Instruct her to whisper a word into your ear.

You then use a series of short sentences and finger click to help your wing man figure out the answer.

The vowels are translated by clicks.

A= 1 Click, E= 2 clicks, I= 3 Clicks, O= 4 Clicks, U= 5 Clicks.

Any other letter is translated by saying a short sentence with the letter you are trying to portray being the first letter of the third word in the sentence.




For example:

The word is "JUSTICE"

You

Ok, I Just need to fucus

Click your fingers 5 times

I think Somethings starting to happen

This should Transfer to your mind shortly

Click your fingers 3 times

Ok, now Concentrate on my thoughts

Click your fingers 2 times

Wing Man


JUSTICE!


To show it's the end of the word make up some little code magic flick of the wrist or hand signal.

Practice for an hour or so with your wing man so you don't stuff it up, switch roles so you can both practice leading.

The best way I have found is to keep the "mind reading" and "ESP" talk going while you are saying the sentences, it adds to the effect quite well!

Vowels next to each other in the word are done by inserting a 4-6 second pause in between the clicks
