Great Double/Triple Bills

I was just flicking through the tv guild and spotted what seems like an fun little double bill of films on BBC2 right at this minute, namely ‘Saturn 3’ and ‘Battle Beyond the Stars’.

For those not in the know, ‘Saturn 3’ is a pretty bad film, but a fun one; an elderly Kirk Douglas trying to get off with Farrah Fawcett, Harvey Keitel – badly dubbed and a psychotic robot out to kill them all…what’s not to like! Well…I seem to remember the ending is terrible, but apparently the film has numerous missing scenes.

I haven’t seen ‘Battle Beyond the Stars’ in over two decades. I do remember it being good fun, a better film than ‘Saturn 3’. Great B-movie cast, a story which blatantly rips off ‘The Seven Samurai’ and a space ship which has boobs looks unusual. I think this is a great double bill, not to be missed. I wonder if the nostalgia for ‘Super 8’ had any part to play in this schedule?

I think there is a thread in this, because I always remember double/triple bills being the place where I really fell in love with films.

What films do you think make up a great double or triple bill and give a reason why.
