connecting a laptop to my tv

hi i want to connect my laptop to my tv so i can watch films off my portable hard-drive , my tv has HDMI1 , scart and S-video conections and my laptop has USB and VGA (i think its VGA ,it doesnt have the screws on the sides tho ) conections , can anyone tell me what type of cable i need and where to get it ?

dont get vga to hdmi , it wont trandfer audio ,
get hdmi to usb

or for €100 you can get a AV wireless set

Their two of the better videos on youtube, there's loads more. There's one idiot connecting them in his bedroom in near darkness and he's like "you probably can't see this" eh, no s**t.

As for Cables, I see peats mentioned abit, price wise though you'll probably have to go online. Tesco/currys may be worth a look.

I am presuming there are separate cables for connecting s video to hdmi as opposed to vga to hdmi as they are different entities?It just I see everywhere mentioned everywhere re connecting/converting vga to hdmi but not so much s video to hdmi.Forgive my ignorance!

Dont use your laptop. It will just shorten its life. Get an nbox on ebay. A company in cork called lancuna I think sell them through ebay. They are well worth the €20 or so that they pay for it. One of the best purchases I ever made personally
