An Unidentified Piece of Music...Identified

Apologies if this post bores you lot - I probably wouldn't post it if the forum was busier but since it is dead...who cares??

I started watching the Blu Ray of the BSG series in January (nearly done now - must be my 3rd or 4th time in total) and specifically I just finished watching the treacherously brilliant "Someone to Watch Over Me" and it reminded me of something that I noted when I watched season 2 again a month or so ago.

In one of the early Season 2 episodes when Starbuck and Helo are in her apartment there is an lovely piece of piano playing (dunno why I love it so much, it just fits, like they are finally taking a break from being hunted) but more importantly, I noticed I did not recognise it. I have all the sountracks on my MP3 player for years now and watching the BLU RAYS, I pretty much recognise every track when it is played on the show.

I did some googling and it turns out the piece is not by Bear McCreary (and hence not on the OST Season 2.....it is by Philip Glass and it is called Metamorphis 1...have a listen.

ya i remember that piece.didnt know it wasnt composed by bear mcgreary. its defo not on any of the soundtrack discs, just checked, theres quite a sad undertone to the piece tho but fits in nicely with the scene. i love BSG, the tunes are excellent,
personal favs of mine admiral and commander, pegasus, roslin and adama, pasacaglia, wander my friends, prelude to war, and gentle execution.

Good find alright. It's a magic piece. I'll have to try and find an mp3 somewhere!

My own favourites from the show...just listing from my iphone

    prologue,
    precipice,
    prelude to war,
    heeding the call,
    all along the watchtower,
    main title,
    passacaglia.

All brilliant ones, id have to add in "Something dark is coming." Its so chilled out and relaxing.

I love that one too, it is the song that got me into BSG music.

I'd have said it was more disturbing/foreboding though!

Depends on the listeners perspective I think which is the way the composer wanted it. To be unique to the person listening to the piece.

Well if you listened to it in isolation then the old argument of everyone having an opinion applies.

However, in the show there is little doubt as to the intent (the name of the piece is a dead giveaway as is Athena's use of it when talking to Helo - "Something Dark is Coming Helo...not the mission..not on Caprica...its more of a dark time".

    Love it regardless.

Indeed you are correct, my apologies. I tend to listen to the BSG soundtrack in work hence my explanation. :)
