I'm off to Australia in 4 weeks, via Dubai and have just frightened the bejaysus out of myself by reading stories about th eman who was sentenced to 4 years because there was a but end of a rollie stuck to the sole of his shoe with .003g of cannabis in it!

And a woman found with codeine pills , was held for 8 weeks before they accepted that thy had been prescribed by her doc.

I always have a few solpadeines in my bag and will probably have a few valium as well to help with the ole nerves while flying ;)

Should I forget all about attempting to go through Dubai airport with either on my person??

I would imagine loads of people travel through there with all sorts of meds.

    Can anyone advise please???

    Hi Sudzs,

Don't have the bejaysus frightened out of you by such horror stories.
You have nothing to worry about.

If you are only transferring flights in Dubai, Pack any non urgent medication you need in your luggage.

You won't see your bags until you arrive down under so there is no way the authorities in Dubai could accuse you of tampering with them with a view to smuggling anything into their jurisdiction.

As for Solpedeine, its available over the counter in the UK (I take it your flight originates from there). Simply pack it with the receipt from where you bought it. (For prescribed medication do the same with a copy of the prescription).

If you need medication to help with a fear of flying it might be worth getting a doctors letter to testify this. He/She will outline any recommended dosage.

And as long as you are only carrying medication that you are allowed to carry in the UK, you'll be fine. This will stand up to anyone anywhere.

Bear in mind that thousands of people pass through Dubai every week from the UK. A very sizable number of them will have medicines of various strengths and types.

The few we read about in the paper are usually up to no good.

Just don't try bringing a suitcase full of Solpedeine through the place and you'll be fine. Pack what you need, have a little brandy at Heathrow (for the road) nod off before take off, and enjoy your flight.

    You'll be fine.

    Thanks for that Lapin! :)

I think I'll leave my Solps in my suitecase in the hold.

And I'll get a note from the doc for the valls. I know hundreds and thousands pass through the airport with no probs but I always feel I have a guilty look on my face going through security.

I trust that if I do get incarcerated in Dubai, you'll get onto Joe Duffy pronto and keep the topic going until I get out!!! ;)
