    An online travel company based in Co Cork, which provides holidays in Ireland, has ceased trading with the loss of 14 jobs. A liquidator is to be appointed to the firm.

    An online travel company based in West Cork, which provides holidays in Ireland, has ceased trading with the loss of 14 jobs.

    MyguideIreland, which has offices in Skibbereen in Co Cork and Boston in the USA, said a liquidator will be appointed to the company in the coming days after it lost key merchant account facilities which has had an impact on its cash flow.

    Around 500 people are currently on holidays with the company in Ireland at the moment and a spokesperson says that they will all be able to travel home.

    However the firm said that around 50 people may have other segments of their trips affected and that its doing everything it can to help them.

    The spokesman could not say how many bookings the company had, or if those who had paid for holidays would get their money back.

    But, in a statement on its website, it says customers who had made payments to MyguideIreland should contact their credit company.

    It also said that bookings with its suppliers should still be held but that suppliers should be paid directly.

    The company claims to be one of the largest online sellers of holidays to Ireland to the US, UK, Irish, Canadian, French, Japanese and German markets.

    It was established in 1998 by three friends as 1 2 Travel and made over a £1m (punts) in sales in its first year of operation.

    It merged with a Boston based Crystal Travel & Tours in 2007.

    In its first nine years of operating, the company experienced 50% growth and in 2008 it said it expected to bring 50,000 guests to Ireland.
