I have swallows building a nest just above my front door.

Its so low I can touch the nest.

Should I break it up now before the eggs arrive?

It is illegal to disturb or damage that nest!!!

    Doubt it

Its illegal to mess on my doorstep.

Will eggs show up in this next if i leave it, hardly at this time of the year

Swallows and House Martins often have 3 broods during the season and it can be well into September before they finish.

What I've done with Swallows on my house is attach a board under the nest to catch anything that may fall.

If the nest is outdoors, they are probably housemartins.

Firstly, doubt all you like but it certainly is illegal to destroy that nest.

Secondly, Yes there probably will be eggs. It's only the first week in August. Still plenty of time for House Martins to have a clutch.

Think they are swallows, a few of them building it.

Very Forked tail, little bowl shaped nest.

    White belly on the birds.

Ill try to get a photo - how long before these birds leave

If building nests on a house and outdoors then they are House Martins.

Not that it matters - The legality and timing is the same for both species.

Based on the photos i have seen, its a swallow - doesnt look like a house martin.

It doesn't matter what type of bird it is, it is illegal to destroy a wild birds nest, irrespective of whether there's eggs in it or not.

It's bad enough with nests falling in bad weather, then you want to come along and destroy the work they have done again. You are depleting their resources and making it very difficult for them to raise a late brood.

The amount of people that give out about birds nests and the poo astounds me. It takes two minutes to throw a bit of water down and clean it up. Nobody ever mentions that they eat a good proportion of the flying insects that can give you a nasty sting;). I know what I'd rather have at my house.
