3G modem with antenna

Can we work through this bit at a time?

First off you have a modem (E176) and an antenna with a lead on it that has a CRC9 plug that fits the modem.

You also have a 3 Broadband SIM that works with the E1550 but not the E176?

What I can't understand is how exactly you know the E176 which I have to assume is unlocked won't work with the 3 SIM?

If you have the E176 in the router all the router has to do provided it has drivers for the E176 is tell the modem to Dial *99# and use the 3Ireland APN.

So from what I've said so far have you checked of the router has the latest firmware that supports the E176 try this for a start but if you need to upgrade the firmware double check that you are getting a version that will work in Europe sometimes US firmware will be different.

Edit> Above link for trouble shooting and this link for UK bin files and this link for the firmware and this is the link to the list of support modems your E176 is on the list.

    Correct

Don't know anything about APN settings, will google them. I assumed it didn't work when I started the modem (with the 3 sim card in it) and it didn't connect automatically.
    Thanks for the links

If you want a step by step guid I can take you through it as TP-Link have an "emulator" for all their stuff, the one for your box is here

Last one of those uints I saw didn't have settings for 3 so I had to put them in myself *99# as the Dial Number and 3ireland as the APN.

So using the above link as a guide (if the softwares not changed) then click on Network then 3G then tick Set the Dial Number and APN manually and put in the above info, but obviously do that on your router not the web emulation. You might also want to tick the Dial Automatically button but that should be all you need to do to get it to work. Check also that the modem shows up on the status page.

Got it working;found the APN settings here: http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?p=55252777 (post 15).
I had to change a few things on the options on the modem (it was set to GSM only).
At the moment I only have it plugged directly into the PC like a normal 3G modem. I won't get a chance to try it with the aerial and the router until next weekend, will let you know how it goes. I am expecting good reception for what I paid for that kit.

It hasn't improved the reception but I think that's because I didn't have it pointing in the direction of the nearest mast.
Don't know how I would do this, I've done it with a skyDSL satellite but that had software to help me.

You could take a look in this thread here, with a laptop and the dongle plugged in directly you can get a good idea of single strenght and if you are picking up a signal from more than one mast with the MDMA software.

The cable that goes from the antennae to the modem is fairly long so that might be my problem. I don't want to cut it so I may have to buy a new (shorter) one.
