    Hi all,

I have an iMac and have been using eBanking with National Irish Bank for some time now with no issues.

Recently I upgraded to OXS Lion. This is my first time attempting to log on to eBanking since and it will not permit me to log on.

When I click on the "Check your computer link the following comes up:
    Operating_system Macintosh OK
    Browser Safari 2.0 OK
    Screen_resolution 1920*1080 OK
    Cookies Yes OK
Acrobat_Reader Version Not installed - Download the latest version of Acrobat Reader from Adobe.
    Javascript_Version 1.6 OK
Java No - Your security settings do not permit the use of Java or support for Java has not been installed. See the guidelines Check Your PC.

I am using Safari 2.0 (which worked before I installed Lion).

I download the latest version of Acrobat despite what this says!

    Anyone any ideas?

    Thanks

The current version of Safari is 5.1 - you may want to upgrade it :)

Lion doesn't have Java installed by default. Download the installer here.

I have Safari 5.1, I said 2.0 by mistake as the "check your computer" link from NIB said I had this older version.

    Sorry for the confusion!

    Thanks for the help Aidan.

I followed the link and installed Java, but still no joy.

    Any other suggestions?

    Thanks

In the Safari Preferences pane go to the Advanced tab and enable the Develop menu. There should now be a new menu at the top of the screen when Safari is active. From this menu go Develop > User Agent > Internet Explorer 7.

It's a long shot but I've found that this trick sometimes works with sites that think the only web browser in the world is I.E.

    Thanks for the quick response.

Once I get to User Agent all of the options are greyed out

    Have you tried Firefox instead?

I went to the logon page myself (running Safari on Lion), and while it was initially stuck at "attempting to start Java", there was a Link mentioning an "Inactive Plug-in ->".

I clicked the arrow, and allowed the Plug-in to be activated, and then re-started Safari as instructed, and then the page reloaded and asked my to allow access by the NIB server. When I said Yes (and ticked the box to always allow requests from NIB), the page was able to start Java and show me the Login fields. I'm not an NIB customer, so that's as far as I got - is that further than you have got?

Edit: My "check your computer" result shows all ticks, except for a ? against Safari

Thanks also to everyone else for taking the time to assist me.

I just did a fresh install of Lion last night.

In relation to the java problem, for anyone else that encounters it, if you open Application->Utilities->Java Preferences, the latest JRE will get downloaded. Open up the Java Preferences again and you have to enable the plugins checkbox, for some reason it is disabled by default.

    Thanks Jester.

Out of interest why would you reinstall Lion?

I had snow leopard installed and only got around to cloning my drive at the weekend so that I can revert back if I have any issues with Lion. Decided I would do a clean install instead of an upgrade as most of the problems with Lion seem to be coming from people from who did an upgrade. Too early to tell yet if I'll be happy with Lion, as I still have to install most of my apps.
