How have you/AH changed during your time here?

I spent some time looking over my previous posts this evening - sad I know (think I've seen Frost/Nixon too many times now at this stage!) But I can't help but see a big difference in both the way attitudes towards posts and also my own attitude to posts have changed since I started in AH.

Going back to last year when I started posting, posters weren't instantly and maliciously attacking each other for the most insignificant thanks-whoring comment - any insult was done in jest. I've made a few of them in my time but didn't feel as grilled about them then as I do now - I was free to let it rip so to speak! This is where the funniest comments in this forum come from IMO! Thanks whoring was actually encouraged back then rather than blasted out of the water now which gave the forum a global acceptance for anyone who wished to voice an opinion or funny comment - while also being sensible about it all of course!

Slamming an attempt at a funny comment for the sake of slamming someone (while probably seeking thanks for doing so) just kills the atmosphere regardless of how "lame" the attempt was - especially in AH which above all is supposed to be about the funny IMO.

Likewise, my attitude towards similar posts has changed to try and fit in (I instantly apologise to anyone I have offended as a result of this new, accepted type of posting). I'm not protesting against people having serious discussion, I just reckon posters (me included) are being too serious about every aspect of this forum these days. Yes it is good to have serious discussion but let's not forget what this forum is about...having a laugh in between! God knows we need a laugh these days!

tl:dr: AH is becoming too serious and malicious

You're over analyzing op. AH is the place for witty repar-tay, puns and thanks whoring of Olympic class standards. Anyone that wants to try to change that needs to be blasted with piss or whatever.

Speaking honestly, I don't think so. This place was a more welcoming forum this time last year than it is now. I just think the serious has taken over and funny comments are frowned upon.

(I reckon I'll get suitably ripped for this attitude tonight, Q.E.D.)

When I joined AH the place was teeming with hot sexy babes. Now I'm lucky if I can find one or two women per day to inflict my patented brand of sexual harassment on.

I've changed a lot since I started posting in After Hours.

I used to post random, throwaway comments & was addicted to endless thanks whoring, often at the expense of others. However, like most people, as time passes, I have become more mature & sensible. I take time to think about what I'm posting & always take care that it isn't something that is going to offend anyone.

This change in my attitude has been quite big & I put it down to excercising daily, eating a good healthy diet & blasting yore ma with piss every morning before I start work.

I'd agree with the posting policy - I have been pretty much looking for a fight with most of what I've posted over the last few weeks in comparison to what I normally post....BUT...I have posted regular, lucid posts in between only for them to be attacked for no reason at all - it just seems to be the in thing for AH right now - atacking the poster is the new thanks-whore as far as I can see

I made sexist remarks in a way that even women, with their tiny little brains could understand.

I have been reading AH for awhile now, it's nothing like the charter says.
It is clique and serious at times. Like everything in life mods let some thread/posts go but the next poster will be punished for the same thing.
I am assuming mods do not have to stick to the rules the same as regular posters.
It most definitely is not like the local pub. AH's is very quiet with the same threads over and over again which is boring. It is obvious when it's quiet some threads which is blatant trolling is left open.

    sorry for any offence.

Honestly? If you're a mod you'll get some leeway from other mods. Based on some semblance of trust that meant you got asked in the first place. Plus mods know how much shíte you can get especially on high traffic forums so again give some leeway. Set against that is you're expected to know better compared to say someone here only a few months, so it can go either way. Personally I'd generally be harder on another mod if they start takin the piss. I've banned more than one in the past. I've gotten warnings myself.
It most definitely is not like the local pub.
I don't see why not. The local has more cliques if you're not in one. In AH(or any other forum pretty much) you as a complete stranger can walk right into a thread and wax lyrical and if you don't come across as a dick you'll be engaged with. Try that in a pub. Walk up to a random group and just dive in with your opinion.
AH's is very quiet with the same threads over and over again which is boring. It is obvious when it's quiet some threads which is blatant trolling is left open
Or maybe left open for shíts and giggles? If they're a bit of a laugh and the person who kicks them off isn't a troll then why not I reckon.

Rejoice in the awareness of feeling stupid, for that’s how you end up learning new things. If you’re not aware you’re stupid, you probably are.

Somebody just linked to the charter. Every time that happens my bed sends a mild electric pulse through my legs until I log in and ban somebody.
    So...
    wibbs banned.

Yes I can see that but the next poster that try's having a laugh with a similar thread will get shot down. I was under the impression that AH was fun but it is very serious, I gather it was not always like this, mods are trying to change it for the better presumably.

Travel, accept certain inalienable truths prices will rise, politicians will philander, you too will get old and when you do, you'll fanaticise that when you were young prices were reasonable, politicians were noble and children respected their elders.

The most consistent thing about AH is it's inconsistency, and that's what makes it a success. It infuriates just as many people as it titillates *snigger*, there are just as many shít jokes as good ones, and on any given day you will look the front page and see a variety of serious and non-serious threads side by side. The Mods don't decide what those thread topics will be, the users do, and while AH may well have once been the old man, spit and sawdust local bar of yesteryear, it's not immune to the influx of young hipster folk that seem to have permeated anything and everything that us old farts used to hold close to our hearts.

Of course AH has changed OP, and will continue to. In twelve months a new set of regulars will have moulded the place to something subtly or distinctly different to now, and the Mods will be doing their damnedest to keep it all in check.

Chloe Mods do not get given special priorities. I would use 'groups of regulars' rather than clique - if you want to post here you kind of have to get your head down and charge away, no-one's going to stop and pat you on the back for making your way over ;)

The tendency for certain topics to get done to death with multiple/weekly or more new threads is getting pretty tiresome but the board could hardly be described as "quiet":confused::confused:
