just saw on a thread where there is a post about farming without dipping in to your single farm payment ,was wondering is there any of you out there in sucklers or drystock that are able to keep going for the year without dipping in to it to keep the farm going . my answer to my question is i only dip in the once and use it all :D:D

Is it not the ambition of all farmers to have their farm cover its own costs to say nothing about giving a wage (god forbid), I know in my circumstances that few extra quid would go a long way on reducing a couple other loans and make life a bit easier while its there. whats left of my SFP is the only thing i contribute to our household so i would like to improve that

this is a major bone of contention around here , i think oh thinks that the food arrives in our house by magic and that kids are clothed etc in the same way... do most people have an agreement where a certain amount is used for living expenses etc?

I'd say it differs in each house. I pay mortgage and all the phone esb and household charge() and the camps etc for the summer while OH buys food clothes etc. It works out about the same every week when we did the totals a few years ago after a 'discussion';). The problem will be for college so all loans have to be gone by then.

Theres a big difference in farming without sfp and farming without dipping into your sfp. You should rephrase your thread title ;)

money for old rope:D, but the benefits it brings to the local economy are huge as with most farmers they reinvest anything that they earn on the land using allot of local firms/materials etc

In our house i have a standing order for set amount every second week into joint a/c and oh wages are in bank on the off week, all set bills like mortgage, vhi and whatever other loans there may be ,clothes, food will come out of that a/c. Works well enough but have to watch farm a/c very closely, i find it makes for a more settled house
