Pressure Vessel Documentation

    Hi

If you get someone to build a pressure vessel for you, how long you need to keep the vessel data book?

does it make a difference who designs it? I mean if the manufacture and the desinger are not the same company, who needs to keep the records?

does it differ for ASME and PED vessels?

Are electonic ( scanned ) versions acceptable?

    Thanks

    Frogeye

Some ASME codes do not require documentation (E.g. B31.3). If you can be a little more specific I may be able to help.

I know when I get vessels made for work I would give our supplier/manufacturer a drawing of the dimensions I need, the capacity, and the pressure or vacuum level the vessel will be operated at. They would then make it to these drawings but would decide the vessel thickness and what weld types etc. to use themselves.

They would pressure test it to a certain level and then issue me with a cert to prove this. I keep the cert for the system the vessel operates in. As far as I know so do they. As for time frame that you have to I'm not sure.

For vessels that would be used on systems operating in ATEX or pharma environments we also get a radiographic report, material certs, and it inspected by a third party. These are issued to the customer, we keep a copy and so does our supplier both in electronic and paper format.
