UPC signal degrading.

    Hi,

Over the last few weeks the digital tv signal has degraded to the point were lines are missing and the sound is interupted every few seconds. Our 20Mb broadband is also down to 7Mb.

UPC are suggesting a new drop down cable but never ellaborated on it.

if the signal was perfect for years , is the loss of signal not just down to the increase in upc's customer base.

    ( Dublin 24 )

    thanks for any help. :D

Mine went like that after I got in the HD service.

I thought the line was unable to handle the HD.

Turns out the cable connection had become loose.
Be sure to check all connections first. An engineer can be pricey!

    hey ,

    thanks for the reply.

they actually came out , metered the line as far as I know and said they bumped the signal. It's still not great. Now the plan is to install this drop cable. Just looking around the attic and the initial piece of cable is an older type coax. obviously ok as the net speed has been up there. Installed with the original move to digital I'm sure.

It was perfect before , now it is bad and nothing with the hardware or cabling has changed. Sure we'll see what they come out with next week.

It's a family members home to so working off second hand information. fun and games at times.

    Cheers..

TV ok but 20mb broadband is averaging 12mb and has gone as low as 7mb.
The drop in broadband performance ties in with peak usage thus I would suggest your theory is correct...

For the record - speedtest at 23.12 - 5mb........lowest ever

Do UPC not cover the cost of all this?

    Just to update,

UPC have covered all the costs yes..

A new cable has been ran for the tv, seems ok for now but still not sure why it should make a huge difference. It's nothing special..

Funnily enough we have been given a new router and they had to call to have the quicker broadband switched on it would seem. Still waiting for it to become active , so will update again later. Weren't we on this already? The new router is on a differnet system apparently.. may have to search for confirmation on that ??

If it all works out then fair enough , they have been pretty good over the last couple of visits..

    Cheers..
