I usually don't like trailer threads. But occasionally one comes around that baffles so much that it's worth highlighting. Enter Red Tails, George Lucas' dream project - oddly, neither written or directed by George Lucas, although I'm sure you'll recongise his handprints all over it despite being relegated to a producer and 'story by...' credit.

Over CGIed dogfights and laughably broad racial commentary? A bit rich from the company that set racial stereotyping back a few decades with the Gungans from Episode 1... And there's something bizarre about the sight of Cuba Gooding Jr. giving a speech with a ridiculous pipe in his mouth. Looks like the sort of conservative war movie we have way too many of already.

But hey, it has Bryan Cranston, right?

Over CGIed alright but for a trailer released nearly 6 months before the film release I'm pretty impressed with the actual quality of the CGI

Film itself though from the dialogue in the trailer looks like it'll be 2 hours of Alec Baldwin's speech from Pearl Harbour. Still could be enjoyable though and seeing as how The Dambusters remake is still as far off as ever this'll have to do for some savage CGI recreations of WW2 dogfights!

So basically the fighter pilots weren't defending the bombers and this was causing a problem. They put the Tuskegee Airmen in their and they defend the bombers, problem solved and America wins the war.

Great trailer. Thanks for saving two hours of my life.

Technically impressive, maybe, but it looks so... clean and artificial. It just looks like the opening battle of Episode III with military aircraft instead of spaceships.

I really wish George Lucas would get over his obsession with special effects: him and his circle of friends seem to be the only ones who actually like it :pac:

It's a little too soon to judge the film based on that trailer alone, but the trailer certainly lays it on thick. Correct me if I'm wrong, because I haven't seen Epsidoe 1 in years, but I seem to remember that it also endorses slavery?

Agreed 100% on Lucas' obsession but my opinions have been forced to change on these CGI fest blockbusters and at this stage so long as the CGI is at least photo real I'm happy, unlike I Am Legend, Wolverine and so many other offenders.

So long as I'm looking at good details and textures on the models themselves I'm happy, such is the sad state of modern blockbusters! :D

The creator of this CGI could teach Lucas a thing or two...

Believe it or not it actually is! The work is pretty ancient at this stage (6/7 years old) by the Japanese animator "Tochy". Some more of his aviation CGI work can be found here

I know it's meant to be an abortion, but does anyone know when this is released in Ireland?

The UK release date is the 6th of June so I'd presume it will be similar over here. Can anyone tell me why there would be such a time difference between the US release i think on the 20th of January and the UK one, it just seems an excessively long time.
