    Hi

I included a course i completed in 2008 in Front Line Management on my CV - without including my results. I simply listed the course and what i learnt.
I was asked for an interview and i have since been offered a job :) which means of course that they are looking for a copy of all my qualifications.

I have a letter stating i attended this course but that i only completed 1 of the 3 modules.

Do i send this letter in with my other qualifications and say nothing? Or do i contact the employer and explain that i dont have a cert, i just have the letter of attendence?
I'm realy afraid that ill lose this job offer because of this :(

If anyone could give me some advice id realy appreciate it . . . . Thanks

If you only passed 1 out of 3 required modules and told your prospective employer that you hold that qualification then I can't see them being very happy about it. Rather than trying to hide it (which could make it worse) I would give them the cert and answer any questions that they ask about it when the time comes. Maybe getting at letter of attendance dates to GP along with it would be a good idea also.

Its not even that you attended and just failed, I would't call attending 1/3 of a course completion. Sounds like a lie, and IMHO they would be in their rights to withdraw the offer.

You can come clean or just say you don't have a cert and let them infer what they will from that.

Sorry Maglite, I did actually complete all 3 modules - its just that i failed 2 of the final exams. My mistake for explaining it wrong.
The letter of attendence states this.

I think my only choice is just to send the letter in and see wat dey cum bak 2 me wit - i shall keep yas updated :)

Going forward shud i take this course off my CV even though i completed all the modules but was just unlucky in my exams?
Or can i leave it on my CV and somehow include - completed but only 1 module passed without seeming like a complete and utter idiot?? :p

    Thanks for your help!

I just feel that i did benefit from the course and its worth me mentioning but i dont know how to do this in the future witout it seemin like im lieing or mis-leading any future employers. Its a messy 1!! :(

No, leave it off. Failing two sections 'proves' you were not up to it, better to ignore it.

I'm sorry but ..."unlucky" ??? if you completed the course and studied and understood the stuff that the course told you you should not have failed 2 modules.

what exactly do you mean by "completed the course" - my understanding is that completing the course means attending classes, doing the work assigned AND passing end of term exams.

best to leave the course off your CV or maybe re-sit the course and pass the remaining two modules.....did you not repeat the failed modules exams ? if not, why not ?

Your only choice is to leave it off. Most likely this course was not the decider in offering you the job, but failing to properly disclose your performance on it will cost you the job, unless your are lucky beyond believe!

Dude... You didn't complete the course. You attended the course. Big diff there. How would you feel if your doctor attended medical school but failed all exams? unlucky or not... You knew you were wrong having that on cv our you wouldn't be asking here. Be a grown up, take responsibility and tell the truth, and obviously remove from cv

I wouldn't even mention the course if I got only 1 module in 3 passed.

Several times in interviews I have been asked why I didn't progress further in my courses and the fact that I got "only" a pass in both of them.

It seems that employers now have such a choice of top performing candidates that only a top mark will do. Otherwise they question your ability and choice of career and use the "low" mark as a way to pick holes in your quest for a job with their company.

This happens especially now because of the high unemployment, low amount of jobs available and the high unemployment right across the world.

The key factors in management are honesty, high performance values, giving example to your subordinates etc.

By putting down failed exams on your CV you demonstrate dishonesty.

By failing two out of three modules and then calling it "unlucky" you demonstrate a disregard for planning, taking responsibility and solving problems.

It should have been possible for you to repeat the exams, managers need to show persistance in achieving their goals.

I'd say the company would be very unwise to put you in a position of authority, having control of peoples working lives.....

Im always amazed when CV's land on my desk with exam results on them, let alone bad exam results. Why in the name of god do you want to tell a potentially employer you got a crap exam result in x or y? Your saying "I could not be arsed to work hard for this exam" - regardless of the actual reason.

The "best practice" is to say I did this course or got a distinction/2.1 in that course - but dont mention subjects unless its really important for the job your applying, maybe you apply for programming a job [eg: you did a computer science degree, and want to show you did 3 programming modules].

But otherwise dont include any exam results, Especially school ones.

If you started a course and did not finish, I would maybe "exaggerate" that you started this course, but had to leave for family reasons, but intend to resume it when you get a job and money to pay for it or something. But dont put on there that you failed/were kicked out/dropped out - as that will make any employer worth working for run a mile from you...
