Hi, i hope this is the right spot. another member suggested the dj forum for my query - we reckon you'd have more info on this:

im looking for a pair of headphones that have high bass levels - this is as i am deaf and can use headphones like this behind the ears to feel the vibrations of the music.
years ago headphones tended to have more in the way of vibrations. modern in ear ones are no good, i dont feel anything. i can feel the music through the floor in a club or if i put my hands on large bass speakers.

ideally i dont want to spend a lot on them but id consider anything within reason.

as dj's would you have any recommendations - brand or specific type of headphone?

    thanks!

Hi OP, another place worth trying would be http://www.head-fi.org/, lots of know-how on there.

I was in HMV looking at in ear headphones and the were sellin a pair sennheiser ones (no more than 30 euros iirc) that had extra bass performance. Would these be of any use or would you prefer cans (padded over the ear headphones)?

    Something like these?

    Or cans:

From my limited experience - in earphones were pretty new on the Market when I lost my hearing and I remember that the cans and old simple metal headphones with foam pads had more of a bass rocking sound to them. But I'd say things have changed, the only thing I know for sure is the generic in earphones you get with iPod or mobile phones just don't produce vibration

The problem I think with your generic in ear headphones is that they are built not to have sufficient punch to protect hearing and probably to ensure to prevent against claims of hearing loss - em, I'm not sure if that's ironic in this instance and I'm not trying to be offensive so I hope that's not how it's taken. Maybe some of the stores might let you roadtest some of the added bass headphones if you explain your needs. Hope this helps!

Ah no that's ok. It did occur to me that a lot of em would be engineered for protecting hearing.

The funny thing is that on this forum in terms of production and the like the aim is to find the flatest sounding headphones and monitors to ensure your getting the best mix for the tunes you might be working on so bass heavy headphones would actually be something you'd stay away from. I hope though that the info I've given you might be of some help. :o
