Bad PR for Lourdes

I have no idea where I could put this so I thought here.

My cousin went to Lourdes last Saturday week (23 July), leaving her uncles wedding early in the process, to help the old and sick people there and generally be a good person.

The idea of Lourdes is for people to go there in wheelchairs and come back walking. My cousin (16) went there walking and came back in a wheelchair. That's pretty bad PR in my mind:D

I am such a Godless heathen. My first thought on reading the title was "wouldn't a thread about Madonna's daughter be better in showbiz" :o

Left wedding pi**ed as a newt, arrived in Lourdes still maggoty, fell over a wheelchair no longer needed by invalid who had miraculous recovery, broke ankle and ended up in wheelchair. How can you blame Lourdes?!:D

Yeah, wheelchair...pfff! I think the good people of Mayo can go one better than the Frenchies. You come to Knock, you see dancing sun, you go home blind!

Getting dunked in one of the three water cold basins near the grotto (on the right side) is weird though.
You get assisted if you wish, get dunked into what's absolutely freezing cold water and yet when you step outside, by that stage your bone dry again.

Absolutely beautiful place thought - and the massive underground church there, has to be seen to be believed.

Sorry to hear about your cousin OP.

Did you go into the baths there?
I remember the processions at night, watching from a high spot like the huge church above the grotto, gave an awesome view as the people/candles moved along in the dark.

O' by lord they do. Some of the ruddy things go on for HOURS!
Then is those doing the 13 stations of the cross there - that goes on for hours too.
(For those that don't know, around Lourdes there is 13 statues representing the supposed stages of the carrying of the lord's cross.
Its like a mini-pilgrimage in itself.)

    Absolutely not. I agree.
As a location alone and the surrounding mountains (for which there is many a tour), its a stunning place.
Even aside from the religious part, its an awesome place just to see.
There is a place there to visit (the name escapes me at the mo) where is is a extensive miniature village what you can walk around. You feel like your walking in Land of the Giants - you being the giant.
That and many other things. The cable cars up the mountains - again breathtaking, out of this world views.
The place really is a joy to visit - and whats more, I dare anyone to find a place more friendly in France.
They can't do enough for you there.

So Knock is to be avoided 'til you try Lourdes? Ok then.
