Good budget stage monitors?

    Hi all,

I'm playing in a couple of rock covers bands at the moment one of which is quite loud and we have always done without monitors. In the other band we do use monitors and I've become very used to it and want to buy one for myself to use all the time. We're using powered desks with just 1 or 2 aux outs so I'm wondering what the best route to go is? Active or passive?

Does anyone have good recommendations for which monitors? It'll be mainly for vocals, acoustic guitar and maybe a bit of keys the odd time. I play with a very loud drummer so a bigger speaker would be preferable I would imagine?

    Thanks for the help.

"The Box" monitors from Thomann are the business - cheap enough but very good quality for the price

    I've used this one meself - http://www.thomann.de/ie/the_box_ma120_mk_ii.htm

I'd go for powered myself even if you have a powered desk, means if you do ever change your desk to unpowered, or need to use it elsewhere you still can. plus you can use it as a practice amp with semi-acoustic or standalone mini-pa as it has line in and mic in.

My vote is for that active wedge monitor linked to above.

I own one and it has a lot of clout for the money.
Grand thing. Only weird part is the XLR input for line level signal which is what you would probably use. I was a long time looking for a cable combo to get it going for me.
