Anyone know if I can lodge two cheques directly into my post office savings bank deposit account in the post office?

Should be no problem. I have lodged cheques in the Post Office without difficulty.

is that not just with that 'postbank' though which has since been discontinued?

i should mention they're company cheques aswell so would that allow faster clearing time?
