We are looking at putting MHRV in the attic of new build. The cost of making a warm roof seems prohibitive as the builder says all that extra time to do it right will have to be paid for. Am thus trying to keep it as simple as possible. House is 1.5 story. We are looking at putting airtightness across the flat roof and perhaps putting in an 'air tight attic door' to access to unit as required. Is this what others are doing? been cognitive of cost are there other suggestions? Anyone used one of these doors? Are there insulation issues for using one?

i was under the impression that it is best to keep the mvhr unit within the thermal/ air-tight zone. can you find space to keep it on the first floor?

Yes Bryan I am aware of that. But I cant seem to find a place for it. Beam say their unit has the highest level of insulation of any unit (they would say that i hear!).

Don't put it in the attic. You have to clean filters often - at least 6 times a year.
And replace them every year. You need to get to know this machine , the (gentle) noises it makes "it's little ways" like you do with the car. So if a filter clogs early are a fan is running slow you will sense this. It's the lungs of your house. Don't hide it away.
