After just having Lasek done 2 days ago in the Mater I was wondering why this large contact lens was inserted into my operated eye straight after. Maybe I missed what the doctor told me or its for protection but as its so uncomfortable I'd like to know why its needed, I thought a patch would have been easier to wear.

With LasEK since it's the surface being operated on rather than under the surface with the flap based IK surgery, they want to seal it off as tightly as possible to stop it from getting infected over the first few days of recovery. You've only one more day to go anyway ;)
