a good deal on a sh Murano has caught me eye

firstly with regard to looks I know its a kinda love it or hate it style so I am not really looking for views on that...

    ...are there known issues etc?

    ...anyone have experience of them?

I think reliability wise they're generally quite good.

The engine is pretty much bullet proof as it's a (detuned?) 350Z engine.

The one I was in had loooads of gizmos in it that I was told were standard or close to it.

I quite like the look of them and they're quicker than you'd expect.

Downsides are the MPG is pretty mediocre (very low 20s as it's quite heavy) and it's in the max tax bracket. Those reasons alone dictated whether the jeep would succeed in Ireland or not. Shame really.

yes they are pretty much the drawbacks I saw; however, it wouldn't be in everyday use

    it is well-speced:

    Heated seats (front and rear)
    electric seats
    all leather
    automatic
    sunroof
    cruise control
    Parking Sensors
    Reversing Camera
    sat-nav

Nice colour (black) ith tinted windows so looks very well to my eye

its an 05 with about 120k miles; but its on sale from a main dealer with FSH

It'd want to be very cheap. What's a good deal?

About €5,000 would be a good price.

I dunno about that. A lot of these big engined SUV type things can't be given away.

I kind of like them, but it's desperately unfashionable and the interior isn't great when you're sitting in it - both of these things will hit resale hard. Nissan Deansgrange recently sold an 08 with 40k miles, don't know what they got but they were asking €14k.

Edit: Just had a look on carzone, looks like €5000 would pick up an 05 with half the mileage.

If you're looking at one of those, your username seems apt :pac:

If you get it cheap go for it, however consider it will be close to impossible to ever resell but if your intention is to drive it in to the ground then resell value down the road doesn't matter.

I was looking at a few a few weeks ago on donedeal etc and they were VERY cheap.

I would be looking at exactly what jamiecall is saying with 5k.

I'd look for a lower mileage one though - not because there'll be any problems with the high'ish mileage, but because they're so cheap you would be mad not to.

Really is a lot of car for the money!

The CVT/Auto boxes are known to be troublesom as the mileage rises, very expensive rapair.

If you search around there are Japanese import muranos available with all the same spec but fitted with a 2.5L engine. Would make the tax bill a bit easier at least.

Put in the same category as an rx300 or x5 3.0i only pay less.
Steadyzeddie who pops in here occasionally has one.

    They're a bargain IMO

I've owned one for 18 months now without any problems apart from a couple of minor things that were done under warranty from a Nissan main dealer. My mpg is pretty much exactly what Nissan claimed - 23.0. Servicing costs are reasonable - ring around the Nissan dealers and see who's got an offer on. I think the most I have paid so far was about €250 including brake fluid change. Parts are cheap and easily available (rear brake pads cost €25 and were delivered in a day or two, for example), tyres are cheap-ish too, no more than €200 a corner for Dunlops - I paid €150 each for Vredstein winter tyres which were fantastic. Performance is great, the CVT auto is brilliant - put yer foot down and it moves and feels like it will keep accelerating forever. I had no problems whatsoever in the snow and ice on the winter tyres with 4wd.

Fuel and tax are the main issues, maintenance and insurance are quite reasonable imo. As already said, it's a lot of car for the money. The only optional extra was metallic paint, and the only difference between UK and Irish cars is that they got front fogs, we didn't.

I always thought my worst nightmare 2 car driveway would be a Murano & a Mondeo. (They sound like Moron & Mundane in my head!).
    Sorry about that! :o

If you get it for a good price well it would be something unusual to have, just take the badge off!

Have a look for a Forester 2.5XT. Cheaper to tax and far more street cred

...depending on the street you're in
