Anyone who could help me about my stay in Ireland?

I have a very long and complicated situation as of the moment and I would be relieved and delighted if I get advices from people who could read my issue.... Here it goes...

I am a non eu citizen who went for a holiday in Ireland back in 2009, at the same time I was trying to sort out my nursing registration there. Since i was only holding a visit visa and allowed to stay for only 3 months, i over stayed for more than a year because of trying to take english exams several times and after several attempts, i finally passed the exam. Got a decision letter from An Bord that i need to have adaptation assessment before i get to be registered. Fortunately, i got an offer from a nursing home who's willing to sponsor me for a work permit and adaptation placement. i was living with my irish bf and supporting me financially and got a fund transfer from my family back home and in america to support me during my stay in ireland. then, after accepting an offer from an employer, someone rang the immigration and told them that there's a certain foreign national in the area who is illegally staying. there were people who got jealous when they heard i have an impending sponsorship and that's who we are thinking who rang the immigration.

so we called in to the station to see the immigration officer and explained to him the story, and he advised us to return to my country voluntarily and just wait for the decision of the work permit application and get a proper long stay visa when i get back. he said that since i have a job offer and a job waiting, there should be no problem going back there. so, my irish bf and i flew back to my country as soon as we got the chance and funds. i have my work permit already but my visa application is really taking so long. my irish bf is now in ireland, i really miss him and we have been in the opposite sides of the world for a long time and its really stressing us out. we really miss each other and we couldn't stand to be away from each other for a long time. We have been together for almost a year now.

Do you think my overstaying in ireland will affect my visa application even if i voluntarily returned to my country? Please anyone who could me clear my mind from stress about this?
