additive for 2nd cut silage

    this year im cutting a big second cut and wondering about putting something on it.what products do ye use and why.its wagon silage

    Will your contractor allow it? Acid rots machines and mollasses makes a horrid sticky mess!

    I just use polyethene. I find it works well every year:p:p

    If the seat's wet, sit on yer hat, a cool head is better than a wet ar5e.

    why are you using it? if the silage is cut at the right time etc , you shouldnt need anything, it would only add another cost imo

    You shouldn't need to put anything on it, if the basics are followed ie. cut, pitted and sealed right. Perhaps if you thought sugars were low, mollasses would be no harm. But as Whelan siad, it's only another expense to an already expensive feedstuff.

    havent made second cut pit with years as i used take mainly bales for outwintering but i have often seen poor second cut material on other farms,its going to be over 2/3 of my silage this year so dont want to f it up.thanks
