Hey guys, lurker on this forum and more of a frequenter on the cycling forum and the A/R/T forum. The have a thread based on the number of miles/km swam during the year and see who swims the most during the year. Would anyone here be interested if i started a similar thread in the new year here, maybe get more people interested in the swimming forum??

150.55 KM since Jan 1. A bit disappointing but I was out of action for a whole month due to injury.

cool, looks like there is some interest in this and come the new year I will have had some sort of a table sorted out so everyone can reccord. Happy swimming!!!

    I'll be on for it.
Might be hard to guess the distance during water polo games, ah sure I'll guess a round figure of 5km :D

Jesus 5k in a water polo match?! Don't you guys just tread water for an hour with the odd sprint down the pool :p I swim in a lane with a water polo type chap in the mornings though, quite a different style to the "swimmers" in that he tends to swim/bounce on top of the water, very powerful hip and leg drive. But then he is by far the quickest of the bunch too...

Swim table woul be an interesting way to get people posting here. I'd say swimmers are as geeky about their numbers as A/R/T folk :)

Why wait for the new year? You can copy any table format in edit mode in any forum to kick off

On average if not all, waterpolo swimmers are in a class of their own. They have to keep there heads up because of the nature of the game, threading water gives them powefull legs, and they need strength in there arms to swing that ball.

They do well in sea swims, but most get a heavy handicap, they sight the bouys well in the sea swims also....

Now could of done with joining a waterpolo club myself....:)

OK maybe not 5km, perhaps 2km pending on the div your in and the style your team plays. I've been playing water polo for 13 odd yrs and came from a competitive swimming background.
Yes different stroke, a more rapid stroke, bust of speed, very strong. When you swim in water polo, you swim as fast as you can, after the swim you tread water with your opposite number leaning (or fighting with you), not much time for rests.

I find the ability to swim with my head up has great benefits in ow. When I sight, my speed wouldn’t drop and I don’t use up much energy

easy to modify to suit, other metrics or colours etc...

To input just click quote, remove the 'quote' tags, input your data. Table sorts itself so no need to adjust your own position...

perhaps put it in a separate thread, besides that, looks good

    thats sounds a lot better
i was thinking 40k a week i have to up my game

Can you tell me exactly how to update table, have tried but can't seem to....I've deleted quotes etc then what....

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,208 ✭✭✭shotgunmcos

I probably make 2-3 swims a week. There is another crowd in the same pool that do 2 a day and 40k a week would be a recover week for them  Hence 40k a week wouldn't be outlandish except they wouldn't be here, they would be either in the pool or resting/eating for the next pool session!

Anyway for the rest of us practicing the anchor stroke I could set a table up on a new thread with instructions how to post etc.. if there was enough interest say minimum 5-10 posters or 1 swim per week required...

True A/R/T is a bit out of shape lately so a few more may migrate :)

I'm on for that. I'll be staying at HIM distance next year and will be focusing on making big improvements on my swim times over the winter months. The only way I seem to do this is through swimming technique sessions in the pool.

    Great idea.

Looks like we have a good few interested in this.
Will we get the ball rolling now or wait for the new year?

I would rather start the list now, either everyone starting from scratch or if you know your mileage, start with what you have done to date?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,468 ✭✭✭sconhome

How about a start from scratch from now but split the table for pool / open water swims as part of your total?

Be a tester for the format and will lead to more interest in the new year, maybe.

Yeah I like that idea of starting from scratch, but what about giving everyone a little bit of time, lets say we start recording it at start of next month? or pick a date?

Its up to you's, I'm easy....

    [..table]

    ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
So when you press quote a window like this will open

Just remove the quote tags at either end
    v v v v v v v v v v v v v v v v v v

    [/QUOTE..]

Just change your numbers and submit reply.
You will be left with this before you post.

    Killgore Trout|150.55
    mad m|280.00
    shotgunmcos|00.00

Which will look like this table
Just change your numbers and submit reply.

    Should end up like this
    2011 Boardsie swim distance log
    Name|Distance (km)
    Killgore Trout|150.55
    mad m|280.00
    shotgunmcos|00.00

At the moment we have 2 fields
    Name
    Distance (km)

From the ideas here we could have

    Name
    Pool kms
    OW kms
    Total kms

We can just have a play with it for this year and get a system like the SBR Challenge in A/R/T going in 2012?

We can start with an 2011 to date number, I know what Ive done. If you don't you can either start from zero or give a best estimate. Sure put in a million kms if you like but you are only kidding yourself :)

Orangebud, what you are doing wrong is cut and pasting. There is some code which is only captured if you follow shotgunmcos instructions exactly.

You need to use the quote option on a working table (take okane1's for example) Strip the
tags from each end, modify the numbers and submit reply. The preview will only show what you cut and pasted but the submitted version will run the table code.
