    hey all ,
Proposal from the governing body of the NARGC is to change the duck season from 1st Sept to the 1st Oct and change the pheasant season from1st Nov to the 1st of Oct also. The NARGC has asked their gun clubs to discuss this at local level before they vote in October 2011....

Should the Pheasant and Duck season be moved to 1st October this year? 39 votes

heard that and have discussed it at club level, most say push the ducks to October and leave the pheasants opening on the 1st November.

tell them to leave things alone and mind their own buisness nargc only speak for some of the shooters in the country it's time they realised they don't have a mandate from everyone who shoots

is there any reason why they want to move the seasons around?

I dont think its coming from only the NARGC, cant find my notes from the meeting:o its something to do with trying to put things on a par with our border cousins (me thinks).

I dont shoot ducks after the 1st September till November when the peasants start so it wont affect me (selfish git that I am).

Did some looking on the CAi website and the NPWS nought..

well afaik the duck season starts in NI on the 1st of september ,the pheasant season starts on the 1st oct and they shoot hens quite merrily maybe we should start asking for that concession  too

Now Landkeeper you are making a very valid point......not shooting hens isnt as good as it sounds. Old matriarchs will not let young fit birds mate ;)(all puns and innuendo deliberately put in there)

what of the licence to shoot game birds...was that issue sorted, did I miss the brief
Is it now issued through gun club membership

    :confused::confused::confused:

All sorted by an amendment to the existing legislation, see the NARGC website half way down article entitled WILDLIFE (AMENDMENT) ACT 2010 RECTIFIES GAME HUNTING LICENCE. Your shotgun licence is it..

This was a face book poll we featured in last months e-zine. To be fair to the NARGC they were not proposing a change merely asking a question. As i said then i think they should change the duck season to 01/Oct and leave pheasants the way it is.

Great thinking on somones part!! NOT!!!
So with the Winters going the way they have been and cold weather bans being slapped on willy nilly, despite the NARGC recommendations and suggestions.[Remember folks your Govt minister knows best.Despite all evidence to the contary!!].By the time the first sprinkling of snow hits the ground there will be another cold weather ban in place nationwide, thussly cutting the season down again by 4/6 weeks. With the usual exclusion of hand reared commercial pheasents:rolleyes::rolleyes:.
Then of course because of EU Furherbefehl [aka EU directive]on migratory birds, no ducks or migratory birds can be shot after Jan31st.
So that makes a mockery of the "seasons extensions"granted here.
IOW look forward to a duck season of proably12 /14 weeks.

FS people, we have enough trouble with this sport without people who should know better suggesting these mad cap ideas. If it aint broke, dont fix it applies here well and truely.

Move the Duck season to Oct 1st but leave the pheasant season as is.
To start with I think leave the pheasants season alone. They'll be too young and small to shoot from 1 oct. As for ducks I think leave it aswell. In my area we get very few duck till later on in season so it doesn't really affect me but for lads on lakes/coast there are plenty of duck from 1sept so basically changing season doesn't benefit anyone

Doyle 61, I think your absolutely right :D. it's ok thinking about a change in dates for the open seasons, but as you have pointed out, the poults may not be big enough and more's to the point, the ducks coming in on the coast or over lakes will be in their most plentiful on the 1st Sept. And as some one has already said, "If it's not broken, Dont fix it" that's when things start to go pear shaped when people interfere.

No leave all seasons as they are
this is definitely an issue with gun clubs with land along the border.... there is the thought that there released birds are being shot by the northern lads a month before they are allowed to shoot.

I'm with you on that Griz. Just wait until we get 2 mm of snow and that'll be another month gone cos of some poxy closure. Would the PTB please leave things well enough alone cos ye aint got a clue!
