Ridley Orion, Orbea Onyx, Bianchi Cento Strada, Kuota Kharma, Scott CR1, Time Speedster (a little over, but nice frame), Cervelo Soloist S1 (if you want aluminum) -there's loads of choices!

I would go for this and put the difference towards a nice set of wheels or some other bling. If you're interested in getting a look at that Canyon frameset I have the exact same one built up with SRAM but in size 52. PM me if you're up for it. I'm in the city centre.

Please also note the Nanolight is not compatible with 10 speed Campagnolo.

surely thats against an EU law (definietly must be against euro rules)

Well I'm in two minds on which to go for. I know its probably against one or two rules in this forum but the Planet X really doesn't do it for me.

I reckon I can build the canyon for around 2500 with a reasonable wheelset.

I also recently had a look at one of these http://www.epic-cycles.co.uk/Kuota_Kebel.html and can get for a similar price and very tempted.

I really like the Canyon. I've been on a Madone 4.5, PLanet X Pro Carbon, Focus Cayo and a Carbon BH which I previously owned. From my brief (excluding the Canyon and BH) experiences with each of these I've found the Canyon to feel far superior. I've no personal experience with Kuota bikes so I can't really comment. Again, you'd be welcome to have a look at mine.

You can get a Storck frame from S Tec from as little as €599

... and you can get the latest Scenaro from for €1,249 from Picocycles

OP, what is your plan for the bike? Racing?
If so, then a top end Carbon frame is no real difference from another!

If I was dropping c.1k on a frame again (and not for racing purposes) I'd pop over to the UK and get measured up for a custom steel frame. The extra weight is negligible in real world terms.

I would disagree. #1 the extra weight is very noticable in real world terms. Sure, it is only seconds, but it feels different, more sluggish. #2 I honestly think custom frames are a waste of money unless you are some very peculiar body shape. Most people can get a perfect fit on a stock frame.

It is of course about your personal preferences and priorities.

I think I'll take you up on that offer and have a look at your canyon. It'll be a few weeks though. Thanks.

Plan for bike is to start racing next year. Also would be doing some sportives such as Wicklow 200, West Cork 200, ROK etc..

Its not that I plan on dropping 1k on a frame but that to me seems to be the starting price for a good one and I definately don't want to have to buy another in a couple of years time. Also not many bikes seem to come with sram components on wiggle etc..

I don't think I'll entertain a steel frame. The weight has to be a factor, especially when climbing.

No worries. Drop me a PM whenever and we'll arrange something.

I know that you've stated a dislike for Planet X but they do sell them with SRAM.

Basing my choice on which frames get really good reviews at a reasonable price I'd have to say the Canyon, the Kuota Kebel and possibly the storck are most appealing.

Again any other suggestions are welcome.

Did I read on another thread that the stocrk frames are extreemly stiff and not really suitable for Irish roads?

You probably did, its a bit like the 'tubs are too much hassle' myth put out by those who haven't even seen one let alone used one

Anyways, I built up a Storck Fenomalist 2 months ago ( thinking I would be upgrading my fillings along with it or selling it on ) and I was completely surprised, its the best frame I've ever been on. Its way more comfy than my Gallium Pro, but still very stiff and rock solid ( in a good way ), and it handles like a dream. I live in Kerry so I've plenty of sh1te boreens to test it on.

The new Scenero in meant to be even more complaint and a decent price too.

The geometry is another thing that puts people off, as it appears a LOT more aggressive than other frames, I hummed and awwwed about it for ages, but it fits me like a glove, despite the numbers looking weird. Weight distribution is miles better.

Tubs are too much hassle for anything except racing... I suspect most racers using tubs agree and save them for the races (I know I certainly do.)

Where I am now is pretty close to the centre of everything; it is you lot that are on the periphery :)
