Engine noise

Hi all just wondering can anyone help,

Basically everytimeni start my car in the morning or if I've left it for a while it makes a tappet noise but goes after 2-3 seconds, it has only started to do this in the past 2-3 weeks.

I haven't done anything different with the car checked the oil today and it's fine.

Also everynow and then when I start the car it revs up to just under 2k rpm but lasts for about 30 seconds. The car is a 1.4 tsi so I think this is normal given it has a small turbo and it's in some way warming it up or something like that.

Just wondering if anyone can suggest what's happening and if I'm correct about the start up revving??

    Thanks

I'd imagine that the tappets are hydraulic, meaning they rely on oil pressure to work correctly. What is the oil level like? Has it been serviced recently or is it due a service? Revving up to 2k sounds a bit high, can't be good on a cold engine and turbo....

I'll double check but it never goes higher than 2k.
The oil is fine it was given a full all the works service at about 46k and it's now on 53k next due at the 60k Mark
And the service was done 17/2/11 so it should be fine

I'm wondering was it serviced with the right oil?

The above was going to be my next question. You would need to be sure that the correct oil has been used during servicing. When was the oil last changed?

It should always be fully synthetic for the latest VAG's especially turbo charged ones and it should be the correct VAG spec too.

5w30 is the normal oil that should be used too IMO, 10w40 should only be used in warmer climates.

Personally I wouldn't use 10/40 semi in a turbo engine..

It can be a couple of different grades but they are all fully synthetic, The spec(502.00) means it has certain additives specified by VW.

How often are you having it changed?

There are 1/2 VW 502 that are 10w40 semi for example http://www.opieoils.co.uk/p-68977-shell-helix-hx7-10w-40-semi-synthetic-premium-engine-oil.aspx

But I'd personally use fully synthetic.
