    Quick Question,
    my brother put his car into get a service, and the guy quoted him around 280 to get the problem fixed. we got a phone call today saying that your man had done repairs of up to 580 and that it still wasn't fixed. he never contacted us about more money needed to be put in. and just went ahead and did it. is this allowed to be done? were basically paying 580 for a still broken car.

    Normally you'd get a phone call.

    If he quoted you a price and didn't call you before carrying out the extra work then I think he might have to honour the price quoted.

    Did you leave it in for a service or to have a specific problem fixed? 2 very different things.

    Either way, extra work/parts are often need but nothing should ever be done over what was originally quoted with your go ahead first.

    Was in an indy garage or a dealer?

    If it's just a service and needs extras like pads r shoes r something like that we would go straight ahead m do it as they affect safety but as what you have said that should never happen hope this helps

    Not without calling the customer first though surely.
    Its their car and money to spend, not yours after all.

    Did he give you a price for a service and then €280 on top to fix a specific problem or was it €280 for the lot...?

    Either way if the problem is not fixed then he hasn't repaired anything and he shouldn't be charging you for work that hasn't 'worked'...

    There seems to be a lot of mechanics on this fourm;

    why don't you say what the problem was, i.e. what prompted ye to bring it to the garage, what did the mechanic tell was wrong, what repairs he said he'd do, what he's actually done and what more needs to be carried out.

    The mechanics here may be able to tell you then if: the garage is having a laugh, or maybe the work is necessary, in such a case the mechanic acted in good faith and is only guilty of not making a call!!
