anyone know of any garages out there that will offer to sell your car for you at a fee? id imagine any garage doing that would be doing ok, not having to tie finances up in cars but just earn a commission on each sale?

It does exist but I've only heard of it being offered by a garage you are buying a car from ;)

I don't see the point of this.Would it not be easier for the garage to just give you the value of the car upfront, then sell it on for a bit more, as they already do?:confused:

I don't really see what the benefit of this service would be.

A legitimate garage will need to offer a warranty, will need to clean and (probably) service the car before sale, will need to get a profit/commission etc.

All these costs will eat into the money you get - i.e. the selling price, less the costs above.

If you sold it privately you'd nearly certainly get more money for it.

Benefit of a service like that depends on the person i guess.

I ld rather see my 78 year old mother sell her car this way then trying to get rid of it privately if the time comes she can not drive anymore.

I wouldnt be able to sell it for her as i dont live in the same country.

Yea but they are leaving your money tied up in stock. Lets say a garage has a large forecourt. They charge €20 per week, plus an additional 5% of teh sale price and they will take your car and sell it for you. They have little risk and only lose a parking space on their forecourt.

Premiercars.ie appear to offer this service.

I doubt they have to offer a warranty by law as they are probably acting as a selling agent only and Im sure the contract of sale is between the car owner and the buyer, not the garage in this case.

There are quite a few garages doing this now. I can see the logic, who wants to have 50 cars which are depreciating in value lying on the forecourt. Certainly not all garages can afford the stock. So say they get 500 for selling a car , contract is between u and the purchaser and garage gets something to pay the bills and they can continue to sell their own cars.:p

I wonder what the punters think when they go to buy a car from a garage and are then told "we're selling it for someone else so we're not giving you any form of warranty or backup." I'd think that sounds fairly bogey imho.

Offer them a warranty at an extra cost. You are selling the car on beahlf of someone for 5000 eg. ''We have inspected the car and like any other garage that take trade ins, we would be be happy to offer you waranty as we are confident in the quality if this car. we sell 12 month waranties for €495 plus vat for a car of this year and milage.''
So you get the car for 5600 apprx... still cheaper than the dealer and with the peace of mind of having a warranty. There are loads of companies in the Uk making a fortune out of selling waranties to car owners who want to extend their waranty when the manufacturers warranty runs out , or just want to purchase a warranty for a vehichle they are buying privatley...
I cant see how some struggling garages arent thinking of things like this... there must be a downside..

I haven't heard of too many garages doing this but i know you could put it in for auction with a minimum reserve price?

Belgard auctions have been doing this for quite some time now and have a regular turnaround of vehicles up for sale!

I dont see an issue provided this is made known on all advertising etc and then I would want to do the deal with the actual owner too.
