How do you like your towel?

The 'Stealing From Hotels' thread got me thinking.

Towels are probably the thing most often stolen from hotels, but I never do this. I leave them in the bathroom because I hate hotel towels they're too soft and don't dry you properly. I much prefer a nice, scratchy towel; it dries better and you get a nice exfoliating scrub off of it.

So, which do you prefer: Fluffy towels or Scratchy towels?

Some people on here are rightly disgusting! Those towels have been up the arse crack of probably hundreds of people and you want to steal them?

Scratchy? As in air dried until they are so rock hard you have to break them to fold them? No thanks. Not for this little princess.

I can't believe anyone would steal a towel from a hotel, that's gross. Especially as you can buy a brand new (fluffy) bath towel for under €20 in Dunnes..

I have a very thin beach towel that does the trick better than the thick ones.
It also has pics of fishes on It, which is gnarly.

I recommend putting your underwear on the rad, makes winter mornings so much better.

I like to keep it close to hand at all times in case of emergencies.

I always know where my towel is at.

We have a really tacky 80s beach towel which says 'windsurfers do it standing up'. Nice and big and a bit scratchy but good and absorbent. Perfect.

Stiff and scratchy, can't stand the non-absorbant ultra fluffy ones. Fabric conditioner is not allowed in my house.

If you need to break your towel to fold it it probably needs a wash.

thats the one. i love the taste...i mean smell.... and the softness is a bonus :)

I have never understood why some people insist that scratchy towels dry you better than fluffy ones. I know people who refuse to tumble-dry their towels because air-drying makes them scratchy and, therefore, better at drying. Surely the method one uses to dry the towel can in no way affect the drying (or, if you will, towel-esque) properties of the towel?!

I like them fluffy, and somehow I have never found myself to be in any way moist* after using them.

Fluffy towels do feel nice and snuggly, but I prefer really rough dry towels for drying myself. I just find they are better for drying myself, with fluffy ones I always get little pieces of towel stuck to me.
Fluffy ones seem to just rub the moisture around, whereas the "scratchy" ones seem much more absorbent.
The really dry hard scratchy towels are great for aiding with exfoliation too which is a bonus!:)

Having a consistent supply of warm, clean & dry towels in the hot press is one of the main reasons that God invented women.

Gigantic, fluffy bath-sheets, thats what. Long enough to wrap around even the chubbiest tub.

Get away with your soft and fluffy.

Hard and rough is the only way to go.

    Having nice towels is important.
I wash mine at a 95 degree boil wash & then hang out to dry on the clothes line or on a clothes horse in winter.
By the time they dry they are very scratchy & hard.
But the secret is to pop them in the dryer for about 10-15 mins to soften them a bit. This means that you still get really good absorbtion & scratchiness without lifting a layer of skin off.

And yes, my life is quite dull that I put that amount of time into towels.

Before using a new towel, you should wash it.

Increases the absorbancy and dries one much better.

Personally I like mine medium sctatchy as one can give the auld ballbag a good 'rasping' leaving her 'singing' and clean.

Follow up with a good delve up the hoop, and into the washing machine for another round.

Coloured towels are safest,I avoid white if possible:cool:

No, fabric conditioner makes them too soft & instead of drying the water off the towel it will merely smear the water across your body so you may as well just stand there & air dry.

I wonder if the 50-50 demographic is that women use soft, men rough.

Personally cant stand soft ones. Air-dryed towels are the stuff of ledge! :D

They will if you rub, they won't if you pat.
Also scratchy towels are great for exfoliating.

ever since I seen olympic swimmers dry themselves after a drive I only give my self a quick wipe with a towel, you cant 'dry' yourself, just take the heavy water off! doesnt really matter how absorbent it is really unless you have really long hair..and even then.

The first one there, now thats the sound of a fridge humming and the second one, now thats the sound of a man humming. You never hear a woman humming. I knew a woman once, but she died soon afterwards...

I hate if the towel is too fluffy and you end up with little bits of fluff all over your skin. Ugh. Other than that, I don't really mind.
