Hello there folks. I did a Fetac level 5 last yr in Media Production and Print Journalism I did relatively well and revived distinctions in all the modules I studied. I am particularly interested in Radio and Television production and management alot more so than print. It was recommended to me by my tutor and a few people at radio stations where I did work placement that a BA in Journalism was the way to go for the area that I am interested in and maybe to do a masters in some other form of media. I was offered a place on the Journalism Degree today, I would like a second opinion before I accept the offer does any one have any advice for me? Also what's the social life like in DCU.

There's lots of threads about the Journalism course which I'd recommend you searching for as you'll get lots of info that way.

I'm going into the MA Journalism and not the undergrad, but I'm gonna guess that you'd need to at least enjoy writing a bit from time to time to do a course like this. There's lots of ways you can get into radio and TV in DCU but I imagine there's a strong focus on print in the BAJ.

    Hi!

Firstly, I'm doing the course. I'm 23 and absolutely great craic so if that's enough of a clincher for you, no need to read on! :D

From what I've discerned through trawling hundreds of old journalism threads (through boredom and excitement), the course will well prepare you for life in Radio Production (which is what I think I'm gearing towards myself!) and not just print.

As you can see from the course registry, there's core modules in radio in first and second year as well as most of the other modules being fairly useful for any medium.

Hope to see you there come Sept! :)

Just going to add that the multimedia course would also work if your going for the production side as I'm guessing the journalism course is a lot more geared towards writing and research.
Multimedia might be a little more in depth for audio as that class covers a lot of aspects of sound production work, not just radio. Id suggest you look into it, its a bit more of a practical course.

Hi, I see from your post you have studies media studies/journalism. I am Just wondering what subjects you did as a part of your course? I am starting a media studies course in September and have been out of education for some time...while researching my course i have noticed some subjects which look quite foreign to me....Media Analysis, Writing skills for journalism and games studies. If you did study any of these I would be most grateful if you could pass on your notes/assignments to me so i could study these before the course starts? Of course i would pay you for them...don't expect them for free or that.
