Earphones on a PC/Laptop

I was just wondering if there is any truth that using them on a PC or a laptop is bad for earphones? Should they be only used with an mp3 player?

Never heard that you shouldn't use certain head or earphones on laptops or pcs. I do notice that some of mine are sensitive enough to pick up a low humming when there isn't music playing so I wouldn't use them just because of that solely.
