Ever happen to you? During a race last night I felt a slight pain on the chest. I thought a race no. safety pin had opened and stung me. Only later did I see a fine red welt on the rib cage and a pin prink in its centre. Some or other insect obviously didn't like us running through their space. It still smarts 18 hrs later. A circular mark a cm in diameter on the skin still.

Was in a race on Saturday and the fella in front of me got stung on the chest, he had his trisuit unzipped slightly.

When we crossed the line, he looked to be in pain, looked nasty.

Had I known he was suffering due to a bee sting that close to the end of the race, I would have pushed it on a bit more and try to pass him.;)

I was stung in the corner of the mouth on the bike once - didn't feel too bad, just very numb. By the time I got home I had a big swollen lump on my lip.

Had a wasp fly up my sleeve once. Even though I had an eppy trying to get it out, I still got stung. Hurt like hell. :)

Stung on the shin by large Wasp while jogging on a beach in Cuba. Shocking amount of blood, not that painful though.

I was convinced it laid eggs that would hatch in my brian though

Running last year and felt a sharp sting to the neck. Naturally hand went straight up to my neck as a reaction rubbing it. Next thing I feel the worst sharp sting I have ever got in my hand (I had apparently caught the little S*&t in my hand) Swatted it away and thought I was safe but he had gone down the singlet (at this stage had to stop).

Got stung on the scalp. Bee/Wasp got caught in my hair (when I once had hair) and as I tried to get it out it stung. A bit sore for a while.
Between dogs, bikes on path, walkers not getting out of the way, ignorant car drivers, bees, wasps and other insects, this running lark is a dangerous game.

Not quite the same thing, but worthy of inclusion:

Last summer I was running some backroads, up to a mud trail that crosses ditches back to my house. I noticed a girl on horseback up ahead, she entered the horse into the trail, and went up around a bend. I followed, coughed so as not to surprize her.
When I rounded the bend, she had dismounted the horse, and was slapping her bare bum, britches around her ankles. She turned her head back and saw me, I could do nothing but smile and keep jogging slowly past...

"A bee stung me on the bum!" she explained, her face as red as the deepest ruby:D

I got stung cycling on Tuesday night. Never saw the wasp but certainly felt its aftermath. Managed to sting me on my lap about 1mm from where my balls were resting. So whilst it still smarts it could have been worse.

Oops... see now this is about bee stings whereas I had been expecting an angry debate about the entry fees for 'commercially' run races....

On Insect Stings....When running in Dom Rep used to have to check my runners for Tarantulas before putting them on....they give a nasty bite, not poisonous, just like a very bad bee sting.

Stung on the tongue once by a wasp/bee that flew into my mouth while cycling half way down Sally Gap to Laragh (miles from anyone). Thought it might swell up and choke me to death, but doesn't appear to have done so:)

Not stung yet thankfully but was pelting it down a hill at 50km/hour on the bike last year when I had a fly manage to fly right into my eye (even though I was wearing glasses!).

It hurt like hell and almost crashed the bike in the process,

Moreorless the exact same thing happened me last year. Bee flew into my nostril, but luckily enough I closed the other nostril and blew the fecker out fairly quickly. I just got a mild sting as a result!

This didn't happen while running but this thread just reminded me....

Was walking through town one day during the summer a few years back. Myself and the missus standing at a set of traffic lights waiting to cross the road. I was wearing a cap, and this little sparrow or some other type of small bird comes flying at me and tries to land on the peak of my cap!

I completely over-reacted and started going mental, arms flying about the place.... All the while the O/H is standing there in stitches laughing at me!

Earlier this Summer I was jogging along the river Lee with a friend when I felt something hit me in the face, the something turned out to be a honeybee who as their last act stung me on the cheek. Wasn't that sore as I managed to squeeze out the stinger after I got over the bit of a shock. The mark had almost disappeared the following morning so think I got off fairly lightly.

I think I seen a movie with that scene in it before!
