Going through the manual for this box, it states that one hour of programming takes approximately 2GB of space. Can anybody that has this box confirm if this is for standard definition or HD. If it is for standard definition, how much space does one hour of HD take up?

    Thanks

It would be for SD. HD recordings (i.e. RTE Two) will typically take three or four times as much. It's largely dependent on the bit rate of the transmission so it's difficult to be exact.

Thanks for that. I just wanted to know if a 32GB USB memory stick would be sufficient to record a few hours but it would seem that it's not.

I wonder would one of those 500 GB external hard drives that takes it's power from the USB port be OK.

I find an average of 4.5 Gigs per hour minimum. I have recorded some movies that exceed 13Gigs.

USB sticks vary in performance greatly. Most cheapie ones aren't fast enough to handle recording from RTE Two, so you may have to try various ones to get reliable results. An external hard drive is a much better option, but it's preferable that it has its own power supply. You might get away with a laptop (2.5") drive in an enclosure that has a lower power draw, powered directly from the Walker box, but I have no personal experience of this model.

I'd agree with that. The test loop(full HD) that RTE Two were using ran for about twenty minutes and was about 1.5 - 1.8GB as I recall, so that would make around 5'ishGB for an hour.
