2004 Ford Focus Zetec 1.4, fitting new auxillary(alternator) belt

    Hi lads,

Need a bit of advice fitting this belt. My model doesn't have air con so it's the stretchy type belt(no tensioner).

Now according to the Haynes manual it should be supplied with two fitting tools. Me being clever I didn't by it from Ford but got a spurious brand one. Belt seems fine but no fitting tools with it.

Is there anyway around this? Perhaps moving the alternator or is that a big job in itself?

    Cheers.

If you get the special tool, support the engine with a block of timper and a jack and take the engine mount off, makes life much easier. Only five bolts, 2 minutes.

When they first came out I did a few without the tool by removing the top 2 alternator bolts and lowering the alternator down, fitting the belt then carfully levering the alternator back up into position. You just need to carefull to get the bolts back in straight.

It can't be done with all of them belts as some of them belts are more stretchy than others. On a mark 2 for example(same set up) you will be doing well to get it back on without the tool, brute force and ignorance would have to be used there:p
Once you have the two top bolts on the alternator with the belt on the bottom bolt will be difficult to line up.

I never used to take out the bottom bolt, just loosen it so the alt hinged down, the bottom bolt then acts as a pivot when levering the alt back up.

I never tried it without the tool on a mk2 though.
