    Hi Guys,

I am hoping you can help, I have a beautiful pure black russel/terrier cross bitch.

Unfortunately due to personal circumstances, I have to move into a small apartment and have now started to work full time so I am not giving the dog as much attention as she needs.

She is fully vaccinated, and wormed and has a great temperament.

I am very apprehensive in bringing her to the pound as there is a chance she may not be re homed.

If anybody would like to take her, please PM me and any thoughts or suggestions on how to find her a good home would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks

    Keith,

if you bring her to the pound she will be destroyed ... surrenders are only given 24hours... sometimes 5 days to find a home then they are put to sleep.... please contact your local rescue shelter who have a policy of not destroying dogs etc...

on another note terriers / russels are small dogs....they would suit apartment living.... i understand you mentioned you are now working full time... however can you not come up with an alternative??? giving up your dog should be a last resort... have you though of a dog walker perhaps??
I work long hours (since 2010) sometimes 8am to 10pm... i have a dog too ... i also have a dog walker two days per week and my hubby is home early on the other days and it has worked out really well.... the dog as never been happier.....

it should be a last reosrt giving up your dog.... when ALL other avenues have been explored... if this is the case please contact your local shelter NOT the pound and give her some chance at some life..

    best of luck.

    Hey Cocker,

Thank you for the information. I will not be putting her in a pound under any circumstances, I work 5 12 hour shifts a week and the poor dog has been bounced around to my parents who unfortunately already have a dog and cannot look after her.

I will be calling the Dublin SPCA as I think they also take in surrenders too, hopefully they can find her the home she deserves.

OP why can't you keep her u til you find a suitable home? She is better in your apartment even if she is alone for 10 hours a day instead of more than likely being pts in the pound.

I wish I could, I have given this a lot of thought, I have adverts everywhere. As far as Im aware, the SPCA do not put them into a pound but have them in there own rescue centre?

I don't mean to suggest you haven't thought about this already OP, but do you suppose there are any local dog walkers who could take her out during the day? That way you could keep her, if not indefinitely, at least until you find a good home?

Best of luck finding her a new home, it really would be best though if she could stay with you until you find that new home. All of the rescues and shelters are full to bursting at the moment, so you may not find any that can help you.

As you considering the DSPCA I guess you live in Dublin, Ashton pound are one of the best in the country, I doubt very, very, very much that she would be pts if she went there. However, as good as it is, its still no place for a pup, so please consider holding onto her for a while longer, as another poster suggested, how about a dog walker popping in duing the day and taking her out? Or, if you're working and can afford it, doggie day care, where she would go and play with other dogs all day, there is a brilliant one in Blanchardstown.

Have you put her details up here in the rehoming thread? irishanimals.ie is another brilliant place to put her details up.
