Hey, I have a sony vaio VGN-NR32S. It suffers from a damaged nvidia gpu, nvidia produced a huge batch of faulty chips around this time. Sony recalled some models but not mine. Even though I have the same GPU as the ones recalled. :(

So I can boot into windows but only after I disable the nvidia drivers. And there are artifacts on the screen.

It's a nice laptop with a core2duo and 2 gigs of ram. Seams like a shame to just throw it away do I have any chance of getting it fixed?

You could try reballing the GPU but you would most likely break it if you didnt have high quality equipment.

but if its dead you may aswell try!

Jaysus wept.. Don't throw it away.. ;)

Yes you have a very good chance of getting it fixed, you could even try DIY.
Faiing that, or if you don't have the confidence to try it, You could sell it as is, and you could get a decent amount, now, i haven't time to look up that model at the moment, so i can't check prices..

Have you read THIS or THIS?

It's a bit outdated as, they stopped sorting this in USA in march, but as they never sorted it in Ireland or admitted the extent, there are some stores still offering compensation. Within six years of purchase (Read the forum linked if you didn't know before of this).

I know Harvey Norman will take ages to get back to you, but if you head in there with enough ammunition, and confidence, they have and are still offering motherboards for as little as €20 to repair it.

Failing all that, you could break it up and sell all parts for a tidy sum.

    Or Keep them for future.

But it is repairable. I'd repair it.
