Would Dublin City Council be responsible for the maintance and upkeep of a house that is about to be given over to them for a 5 year fixed term rent??

Or is it the house owners/landlords rsponsibility to maintain the house.

I was allways led to believe that the council oversee the upkeep of the house, when they take it over for 5 years.

Also does the council deduct tax off you when they pay you the rent amount each month,or how does it work with regards tax and recieving rental income from the council???

    Any advice???

    Thanks.:)

You could always ask the council! Alternatively ask in your local Citizens Information Centre, www.citizensinformation.ie

you have to make a tax return as a landlord ,they pay the rent agreed ,your tax is not their business.
You are responsible for all repairs, maintenance, its just the same as a private tenant except your rent is gauranteed.Just ask them for more info,or look on the website for the council ,there may be more info there.

The landlord is responsible for the upkeep and maintenance of the property. You receive a guaranteed rent from the council- that is the extent of it.

    Yes- its your responsibility.

Who led you to believe this? Do you have any source for this?

The council will deduct tax from the gross rental income- if you are no longer resident in the country. If you are still in Ireland- they do not. You need to furnish an annual tax return to the Revenue Commissioners, in either event (its actually relatively easy to do the return).

It depends on the council. Some effectively act as landlord and maintain the property. You need to check with them. DCC do maintain the property for things like electric, heating etc... Major issues such as structural issues they do not.

Your tax is your responsibility with the exception of non residency.
