Hey, need a bit of advice. I started a new job about 3 months ago. Bascially there were many promises made about bonuses etc, non of which have happened. I have been taking calls for the company every evening and weekend since I started, have never taken a lunch, and just feel completed taken advantage of. Anyhow long story short, I have been offered a new position and have decided to take it. I was promised a percentage bonus, but I never got a contact, despite asking numerous times. How much notice do I need to give? I want to finish next week, and will be due a weeks pay, and about a weeks holidays. My boss is on holidays from tomorrow and wont be back until the end of next week. I want to make sure I am paid up to date, but with no contact what notice is legally required? Thanks in advance!

I'm pretty sure that it is only one week you are required to give.

It is a bit short notice, but that's the way it works.

Two weeks would be more polite but if you have a new job to go to you probably have to leave it at one week.

Don't forget that if you tell your boss on the phone - make sure you say that you will put it in writing and either post it or e-mail it to him in writing the same date you tell him.

Don't mention any of the bad stuff they had promised you - just say that you have been offered a new job with fantastic opportunities and a package that you could just not turn down..

Thanks for the advice, ya I am going to have to phone to hand in notice, it isnt ideal, but only way I can do it. Will put in writing and email to my boss also.

Two weeks would have been better, but only just finalised the new offer. I am not going to go into the ins and outs of why I am leaving, just be nice and say something better came along.

As long as I give the correct notice, there is no way they can withhold my final payment and holiday pay? My boss is a bit erratic to say the least, and I know will be pretty p***ed off the hear I am leaving, I just hope it doesnt get nasty...
