Quick Indian Visa Question

I'll be arriving in India on the 17th of October and will be staying there for 4 weeks before moving on. Myself and my g/f were going to apply for our tourist visas this week (to get them out of the way). I just want to double check my info:

Am I right in thinking a tourist visa is valid for 6 months, goes into effect the day you receive the visa and costs €50? If this is the case, it won't matter if we apply this week as if we were to receive it next week or thereabouts, it would still be valid until Jan '12 and we'll be well gone by then.

The reason I ask is that I was just on the embassy's site and there is conflicting info on their page about a tourist visa.

In one part it says, 'A tourist visa is normally issued for three months with a single entry'

and then further down the page it says,

'Tourist visa, valid for 6 months, €50

I don't want to apply and find out it ends before we even arrive.

I think the standard visa is 3 months but you can get a six month visa if needed. It starts from when the visa is issued not when you enter the country. I didnt get my visa in Ireland but from googling it seems that the cost for visas up to six months is 50euro!

It would be advisable to contact the embassy to clarify though as with most things in India, it can be confusing! :)

I just got one, without specifying anything and it was for 3 months. I think they saw that my in and out dates were within 3 months so figured I just needed that. I'm sure if they saw you needed more they'd give you 6 but you should contact them to clarify. They're very hard too call so you should email.

We've decided to wait till September before we get it. We don't need to get it now tbh (we're just trying to tick things off our list each week as we go along). I figure if we get one in Sept and it's only for 3 months, it won't expire till the end of Nov and by then we'll be in Thailand so it should be all good.

How long did it take you to get yours?

I posted mine to them on a Thursday and it arrived in my house Friday of the following week. It's faster obviously, if you can drop it in and collect.
