    Hi all,

I need a copy of Snow Leopard to try to resolve a problem I'm having with my iMac. Any idea where I can buy a copy in Dublin? Preferably in the city centre.

    Cheers,

    Ciaran

sorry complete brainfreeze, indeed any mac retailer should have coppies of snow leopard on the shelfs, tho itll be a pretty penny surely for a new copy

    Try CompuB on Grafton Street.

Just checked their website and it looks like it's in stock. I'll give them a call in the morning to see if they have a copy.

    Thanks Prof.

Compared to Windows 7 Ultimate @ over 200 quid Mac OS X 10.6.3 @ under 30 quid in most Currys branches is for nothing !!

Could the OP elaborate on the problem a bit ? Why is the retail version of Snow Leopard required over the recovery discs that would have come with the machine ?

surely a brand new copy of snow leopard is much more expensive then not having to buy a copy at all. as recovery disks are supplied and any apple reseller may have some.

dont know why the person has to buy new ones, thats why i mentioned a pretty penny.

and i dont know why you mentioned the costs of pc os's not asked here and nothing to do with the costs at all. windows 7 ultimate @ 200euro might have a smaller margin over lion, at 30quid

It's possible the OP has an iMac that came with 10.5 rather than 10.6 which is why I asked if he could elaborate on the issue.

Hard to see how Windows 7 needs to sell at almost 8 times the price of Leopard when it has approximately 90% market share in terms of compatible hardware but as you say it has nothing to do with this thread, I was merely offering some perspective re your "pretty penny" comment :)

If the OP just wants to test out the disc before committing to a purchase then perhaps I could help ? My Mac came with 10.4 originally but I bought 10.6.3 from Dixons in the Airport for 28 euro. PM me if you're stuck.

My iMac wont boot and I don't have the discs that came with it. I spent an hour going through boxes and disc wallets but I a can't find them - very annoying.

I power it on, hear the start up chime then progress onto to grey screen with the spinning cog, from there it goes to the blue screen but that's where it
stops. I can't get it into safe mode and I've no backup (I know, I know). I'm happy to spend €30 to get it sorted and I hope that the Disk Utility will fix the problem or at least let me get my files off before reinstalling the OS.

I've 10.5.8 installed currently will I be ok booting to the Disk Utility on SN does anyone know?

On the blue screen do you see a mouse pointer or a spinning beach ball ? How long have you left it before trying to restart ?

Try holding Command (Apple Key) and 'S' immediately after power up. This gets you to single user mode. Let us know if you can get that far.

No beach ball on the blue screen, just solid blue. I've left it sitting for over an hour but it doesn't progress. I can get into single user mode ok and I ran the disc check utility (fsdc?) a few times but it's reporting as not seeing any problems with the disc.

    Cheers,

Picked up a copy in Right Click on Camden St. The guy in Dawson St. called the Camden St. shop and they sorted me out with (probably) the last boxed copy in Dublin. Good customer service from Right Click as always.

Installed SL and I'm back in action.

    Thanks for the help.
