Ireland's Dan Martin, who's the defending champion, was 2nd to Peter Sagan on today's Stage Four and is now fourth overall.

Just starting to get interesting. The first three stages were a little flat (no pun attended) although your man Kittel looks to be some sprinter.
Fair play to Martin didn't think he's be so good in what was essentially an uphill sprint finish.

yep geat ride from dan, seems to have some form looking at how he rode that finishing circuit

Great sprint finish by Sagan to take the victory. Impressive young rider! Dan will be keen to impress after his non selection for the TdF.

The next two days look to be much more up Martin's street. Should be interesting to see how he does against a grand tour winner in Vincenzo Nibali.

    Tomorrow's stage.

Apparently Marcel Kittel puts out 1800 watts in the sprint  Source

20km left in today's stage. All the big GC contenders are still in the main bunch with 2 climbs left.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,507 ✭✭✭✭dastardly00

Dan Martin attacking on an unbelievably steep section of the second last climb! 25%!!!!!:eek:

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,146 ✭✭✭Morrisseeee

Some dig there from D Martin  Edit: it'll be a fair effort to get to the finish alone now!

Going to be a tough 11k for him... fingers crossed

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,146 ✭✭✭Morrisseeee

Pity, but the gap wasn't enough, still there's still one climb left, really surprised by Sagan's climbing, fair play, he's a great talent.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,507 ✭✭✭✭dastardly00

Dan is caught. But there is still one more climb to go. Hopefully Dan can get his breath back and attack again. If he wins (he'll get a 10 second bonus) and gains around 15 seconds he will end up in yellow probably.

Has Martin's attack at least thinned out the group?

  • Moderators, Politics Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 24,269 Mod ✭✭✭✭Chips Lovell

Watching now. Martin's putting Sagan under real pressure

maybe 15-20 left in the main bunch. Martin is attacking again on the final climb

  • Moderators, Politics Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 24,269 Mod ✭✭✭✭Chips Lovell

Great win for Martin. I think he's shy of taking the overall though. 3 seconds off?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,202 ✭✭✭✭Pherekydes

    Dan the man!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,146 ✭✭✭Morrisseeee

if only sagan had blown one attack earlier. great stage win for dan and fair play for sagan for hanging on to all those attacks.

Martin does it by 3 secs provisionally

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,724 ✭✭✭kennyb3

Brilliant finish - screaming at the tv, great to see Dan give it his all. Good stage win all the same.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 460 ✭✭mahoo

wow. dan's taken the lead! thought sagan had hung on to it!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,146 ✭✭✭Morrisseeee

Yay, Martin wins the Yellow by 3 secs :D.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,507 ✭✭✭✭dastardly00

    DAN IN YELLOW!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,202 ✭✭✭✭Pherekydes

Very tough finish and Martin takes yellow! He fought like a tiger for that. Great effort, and patience in that final K

Flat stage tomorrow through the streets of Krackow. You'd fancy Sagan in a bunch sprint to take bonus seconds.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,625 ✭✭✭happytramp

How many places get bonus seconds at the finish? Don't see Sagan in the top three. A break will take the intermediate points and Garmin will do nothing to stop them. They'll sit on Sagan (who's team will have to all the work) Haussler will be fresh as a daisy and take second behind Kittel. Where would Sagan have to place to take four bonus seconds??

For the first, second and third place at each stage the time bonuses will be awarded: 10 sec., 6 sec. and 4 sec. respectively.

He just has to get third. He's well able to sprint, so Martin doesn't have it in the bag just yet.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,575 ✭✭✭✭ednwireland

woo hoo great ride by dan really got some legs for the vuelta
dont forget 3 2 and 1 s in the intermediate sprint

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,146 ✭✭✭Morrisseeee

The breaks have begun already and Garmin have stuck someone in it to drive it along
Fingers crossed for 'Dan the man' today ;)

I'm not near a TV right now, so I tried the Sky TV player on the internet but all it has is Brittish Eurosport and they're showing motorbike racing , so I tried the www.cyclingfans.com website for links but those aren't working for me either  Looks like I will have to wait till 7pm for highlights.
