Hi, am just wondering if anyone knows of any groups/organisations where law students can volunteer? I signed up with flac but haven't got very much out of it and would love to have some different experience on my cv. I'm not talking about office experience per se but something more community based if that makes sense.

The International Legal Foundation sets up legal training centres across the world in developing nations. I'm not sure if they accept law students or not, but might be worth while:

On the domestic front, perhaps the Irish Council of Civil Liberties:

Or, if you wanted to be a bit more creative, you could try contacting your local MABS office and ask them if there is anything that you can do to volunteer with them.

Unfortunately, most volunteer assistance (FLAC in particular) requires fully qualified lawyers. I suppose even for voluntary organisations, they are afraid that if they give the wrong advice they could be sued.

IMRO was looking for people some time ago - lots of copyright related work I imagine (would be more office work based). It's not what you're looking for but it's legal experience (and in a field that excites quite a few people).
