My trainers are looking a bit grubby, all they need is a freshen up, do you think if i bung them in the washing machine would it freshen them up?
    Cheers :)

Put each trainer in a pillow case and then wash. I don't know exactly why this helps but it works for me :)

I put them in the same pillow case, I'm pretty sure it's to protect the drum!

I do the exact same thing :) Only wash my converse and they wouldn't be really hard in the washing machine.

As the two previous posters said, into a pillow case and also, put them in with some towels if you can. Stops both the machine and the runners from getting banged about too much.
I've washed my Asics runners a few times and they've come out looking like new :)

Yah have done all of the above with success. You need to be prepared however that they may not survive.

Use a cold wash to prevent glue melting.

do it all the time, ive even washed stillettos in the washing machine :D (pennys ones mind :)) its grand for runners though,i ususally do it on a 30degree.

Love the idea of stilettos in the washing machine :D

Important thing is to use only a teeny bit of washing powder OP, i normally use woolite or something delicate. Oh and definitely a 30'C wash

In a pillow case is a good idea. The laces got caught in the drum on me once.(on a non-pillow case wash) A pain trying to untangle afterwards.

    Or take laces off?

The detergent can melt the glue so only a teeny tiny bit of a non bio or woolite is needed.
Pillowcase or one of those net laundry bags to keep them getting tangled.

A serious effort involved! Pillow case negates the need.

I do this all the time.

In my house converse, nike, addidas etc all washed regularly, come out like new...

My washing machine has a 'sports shoe cycle' and the advice in the booklet was max 2 pairs of sports shoes at a time, laces removed, velcro tabs opened.

I use Ariel excel gel colour care. Excellent results.:)
