As far as I can find out it is €34pm to add sports here in Ireland compared with £20pm in the UK.

Am I right ? This is a crazy comparison...

This is right but subscribing to Sky Sports 1 and 2 here will also give you ESPN and ESPN America. In the UK subscribers pay for these on top of Sky Sports 1 and 2.

    ........same mugs.

Same bloody company though isnt it ! And they operate their support etc out of the UK dont they ?! Bit convenient that. Even more convenient that the exchequer sees feck all of it.

You see that is the problem when you have ONE company buying up Sports Rights and then playing God. Now that wholesale pricing has been ruled upon hopefully we will see more than just ONE wholesaler/retailer of these sports programmes and indeed how sports are "packaged" as an add on.

Along with ESPN it's actually pretty ok value,it works out at little over €1 a day.(not including your basic packs) Even so still cheaper than buying a daily paper.
As was stated earlier UK viewers have to pay extra along with Sky Sports.

Think of it along the lines of sacrificing a pack of cigs a week or the few extra pints instead and you'll feel better.
If you went to a pub to watch your team every time they were on Sky it would set you back a lot more.

Sky have invested a huge amount of money in sports and they wish to see a return on this investment, like it or not the days of all sports being fta is gone.

Would we see the megastars plying their trade in the Premier League or big players coming to our shores to play rugby without that investment?

It's a fact of life that we in Ireland generally get ripped off when it comes to exchange rates and Sky are just another in a long list of companies who do it,just look at the Box Office prices for boxing etc.

It all boils down to whether you get value for money from Sports channels,I watch a fair bit of sport and thus get value for money from Sky in that regard,if you feel your not watching it enough to justify the cost simply cancel the sports package. That's what I did with Sky Movies.

This is the biggest issue that I have; they "invested" on the basis that they would get mugs to pay for it.

I'd have no problem if the matches that we used to get FTA were still on those channels, covered by the licence fee, and thenSky then provided "extra" for - well - extra.

However allowing them to prevent other stations from continuing with whatever coverage they used to provide was a crap idea.

It's what the market in Ireland will bare. Simples. Sky are out to make money, and lots of it. They don't need to reduce their prices here because many consider their service/product good.

Just cancel and register your reason if you don't consider it to be good value.

Yeah but the ESPN deal only went live a couple of weeks ago. They must have finally realised they were screwing us when they noticed how many people had cancelled Sky Sports and werent bothering with ESPN.

As more and more people are still cancelling it, maybe they will have to drop the prices even lower next year!
