    Hello,
    islamictray.jpg

Here is a picture of a tray I found in my dad's shed. Its about 16 inches by 12 inches. It looks hand made and has alot of detail.

I had a look on ebay and they go from 50 - 500. Does anyone have any information about what this is and of it's value if any.

I had a lady interested in buying it alot at a car boot and she went to for 30. She seemed very eager so i decided to try and find out something about it before selling. Any help is appreciated in appraising.

    1. What are the guards in the tray. They are holding a spear type thing.
    2. I notice they there is a design difference also. 3 of the corners of the square have lines in it but the bottom left corner doesn't. Any reason for this
    3. Also if look like an eye when held back what does this mean

To judge by the human images i would say its Persian..cant date it though..i also seems to be quiet poorly made, looks like it was stamped from a die rather than inscribed by hand.

Persian ok, thanks for that. Can I ask what are the signs it was made from a die and not hand made. Also what is a die?

Anyone know who these guards are?

Is it made from Silver? Can you post a link to the Ebay auctions?

Stamping dies are used to shape pieces of metal.

It is also the way coins are made.

Thanks again for telling about die, haven't put on ebay yet as I didn't know what to call it. Its quite heavy made of brass. no silver on it. Any ideas on value I looked on ebay and hard to tell.

I also found an old mother of pearl crucifix with jerusalem written on the back in my dads shed. I'm told this is worth about 30-40 euro. will post picture later on this one.

Is there a market for old tools also . Tools used by a carpenter in the 70's and 80's.

Tools are best sold through an auctioneer like Purcell's of Birr http://www.purcellauctioneers.ie/ but unless they are very special don't plan your retirement on the basis of the proceeds.

I contact two dealers on ebay and they said -

"i saw the image & your tray is hammer engraved & it's from Iran. ebay does not let us selling Iranian / Persian items "

    "
It's either from Iraq or Lebanon, and those are Assyrian warriors."

I've see other persians item online so don't understand first dealer.
