Castlepollard 5km

    The 2011 Castlepollard Road Race will take place on Wed 10th Aug.starting at 8.00pm. with Juvenile short course races at 7.00 p.m.
    This Race also known as THE TULLYNALLY CHALLENGE as the race route takes the runners &walkers through the scenic & traffic free grounds of TULLYNALLY CASTLE and is now in its 19th or 20th year,having been started by the local Festival Committee in the early 90s and taken up in 2002 by North Westmeath Athletic Club.
    Race numbers have grown from 100 or so in the early years to over 300 last year.
    Many of the top middle distance runners have competed in and won this event ,with Pauline Curley of Tullamore & (Irish International & Olympian)having won it on no less than 4 occasions.
    The winners of the mens even include Garry Ryan, Galway (2)Andrew Ledwith Meath. with Westmeaths internationals ,Martin Fagan,Mark Christie, Damien Bateman,& Gerard Heery.while last years event was won by one of our newest stars ,Jake Byrne , who has since been awarded a full U.S athletic scholarship.
    The race will start on the Square go out the Pakenham Hall Road (R195) around the grounds of Tullynally Castle ,returning by same route, with the FINISH at Castlegrove approx 300m from the Sq.
    This year we will have more prizes than ever,with a prize Fund of €2,000. and for this we must thank our local business & private sponsors.
    Prizes will include commerative medals and Cash/ prizes for the first 8 senior men & women past the post.
    The masters catagories have always attracted a great turn-out ,some of whom produce some serious times for the 5K.
    In appreciation of the efforts of these more senior athletes we will have no less than 7 masters catagories with at least 3+ prizes in each cat.
    The catagories are 0/35,0/40,0/45,0/50,0/55,0/60,0/65.
    In the TEAM PRIZES we hope to have at least 4 team prizes (3 to score).
    The under age open events are u/15 (born 97/98), u/17 (born 95/96) & u/20 (born 92/93/ 94).

    The local (NR. Westmeath) catagory is getting more competitive each year and it takes a very respectible time to get amoung the medals.This year we
    will have at least 4 prizes for senior NR. Westmeath men & women. along with a new catagory for the 0/40 Nr. Westmeath men & women.
    as well as prizes for the 1st 3+ local u/15,u-17,u-20.
    Not forgetting the WALKERS we will have prizes for top three seniors (M&F).
    All athletes are asked to complete a race entry form BEFORE you approach the Registration officials, in order to avoid delays,just hand in your completed form +entry fee and get your race no etc in return.
    Reg. & e-chip timing results will be compiled by PRECISION TIMING.
    Entry fee is €12. (10 +2 for e-timing) for adults, €5. for juniors & walkers.Registration will take place from 6.00 p.m. in the Court House on the Sq.
    Castlepollard.
    The first events of the evening are the Juvenile u-7,u-9,u-11,u-13. at 7.00 p.m around the sq. short course events with loads of medals.drinks & bars for all competitors.
    Lastly ,if you are not taking part in the Race we HOPE YOU WILL COME OUT & enjoy watching many present & future stars.Any profits from the race will be used in support of Athletics in Westmeath & for purchase of athletic equipment.
