Lip Protector for Braces needed

    Hi all,

I broke my jaw about 2 months ago and it has healed well. Unfortunately, my bite is still a bit off and Im in loose elastics at the moment. The doctor didnt remove any of the metal braces from my teeth (that were used for keeping my mouth shut) and I'm beginning to play sport again. I need to get a protector that I can place over the metal things on my teeth so that if I got hit, the metal wont cut my gums.

I have no idea where to get one so any advise would be very much appreciated!

    Many thanks

    TM

    Hiya

This is moving away from your question but are you sure after 2 months you should be playing contact, when i had my jaw done I was told to keep away from contact sports for 6 months? Has your surgeon approved it?

Other than that, can you wear a helmet? Or would dental wax be any good if you were to layer it on? I know that dentists who do bleaching make up little bleach trays you could enquire could one do one of those for you and use that over them?

When I had braces I used one of the crappy boil and bite mouthguards to protect my mouth from them. My ortho gave a type of one size fits all lip bumper thing that was absolutely rubbish.

    Hi Dixie

Thanks for your reply, my doc consistently said 6 weeks. I didnt have an op, just had it wired shut for just over 3 weeks. Was yours a very bad break? What sport did you play?

Oh I see. Mine was an actualy operation to move the jaw, I elected for surgery. I was really having trouble imagining wanting to play sport after 6 weeks there but your case is different! My doc just gave general advice of no contact sports for 6 months.
