    Hi

Car is in the mechanics, as I'm a girl with no mechanical clue what so ever he just said he needs to order the box around the camshaft, replace it and the car will be grand then.

What's the official name for this part if anyone knows? I would like to research how much they cost for my own peace of mind.

Thank you in advance and your help is much appreciated. I don't want to get fooled or ripped off.

Are you talking about the Rocker Cover?

Surely your mechanic would have told you what the problem is and the actual part required.

Oh and said I wouldn't be able to drive the car for long distance without it..

If you're in any way unclear about what needs to be done to your car or why then ask your mechanic. Keep asking questions until you're happy, and make notes of what he says. If anything seems unclear then ask again. Don't be shy or embarrassed, you're perfectly entitled to an explanation. Then you'll be able to come on here with an exact description of what's being done to what car at what cost and people here can advise you on whether you're getting value.:)

What problem were you having with the car?

I've never heard of anything being described as the box around the camshaft. Does the mechanic speak english?

Sounds like the rocker cover.. but you couldn't drive anywhere without it.

Unless it is a new new cylinder head you need... that won't be cheap.

Rocker gasket... now you could drive of that was on the way out. Just a little oil leak would happen.

The mechanics a bit of an old fashioned gobsheen, but he does good work and is reasonable.

Oh i don't know, I don't really want to get him to explain it he makes me feel like an idiot.

Oil leak does not sound good though, happened to my friend and had a new engine put into the car because it broke down one day.

anyway thanks for the replies :)

What kind of car and engine is it anyway? it might be a common enough problem, some us might know what it is.
